I have a very quick question
I have a 98 e320 that I am changing the tranny fluid on and need to know if my car has dextron III or full synth. I have changed the filter and replaced the pan, just need to know what to put back in it.

The MB recommended trans fluid is full syn.
Part No. A001 989 21 03 10 is the 5 sp (722.6 trans) fluid. That's your trans.
Part No. A001 989 45 03 13 is the 7 sp (722.9 trans) fluid. It can be used as well.
There is also a special 'dipstick tool' which is used to adjust the fluid level to the correct point which is critical. Fluid and tool available from 3rd party vendors like autohausaz.com and dealers.
FYI, your 98 E320 is a W210 not W220 as in your profile.

Definitely use the MB brand. You don't want to use anything else. You can get it from the dealer, parts.com, or autohausaz.com. Check all three for prices. It's expensive, but it's cheaper than a new transmission.

No need any more to spend the big bucks on mb fluid.

FFollow the diy on benzworld.org w210 section,I have the dipsticks and magnet,Your 1998 has the converter drain plug unlike later years(2000 up) so you can drain almost all the fluid and change the filter in the pan.
