will 55 watt HID melt my fog housing on the facelift w210?

ddmtuning.com is selling HID kits for the price of halogens, $25 a pair!!! add $10 for 55 watters... one of my fogs is burnt out and I want a set of their 3000*K kit to replace it, possibly the 55w if its possible without melting the housing..

will the 55w run to hot? anyone tried it in the stock fogs? also, do the fogs run at lower voltage (dimmed) when they act as curtiousy lights (when they come on after you lock the car at night), which would make me unable to run HID as fogs, right? or are they the same brightness as when used as fog lights?

Thanks.

Their site says that they do not recommend 55w in foglight housings.

If you also got low beam HID's let me know how your install goes because I just received and I'm confused on how to start.

i have the OEM xenon headlights on my car for low beams.

I saw that note one their website but since our fogs lense are glass and not plastic I taught it might take the heat a little better, but the back of the housing can melt too I guess.

also does anyone know if the fogs are dimmed when used as courtesy lights or do they run full voltage?

geez, don't even attempt to perform this mod w/o inspecting the fog light
wiring....which is a well documented weak point on the 210s even with
the std halogen fog bulb. if you must, at least be sure you toss in inline
fuses or circuit breakers to each lamp.

i had put 55w 6k ddmtunning HID's in both my fogs and my bi-xenon depos retros and it works just fine. although i dont really use them because i dont need them in san diego, i installed them just for looks and i had installed an inline 15 amp fuse for all four lights. and yes they do come on as courtesy lights after you shut the door but i figured out that if lock ur doors with ur remote BEFORE you shut ur door when u get out, the courtesy light will not come on. at least for my 02 w210.

yes, 55k will melt your fog housing because it will get way too hot. if the seller is warning you about it, then must be a reason because it's not that they don't want to sell their product.
i'm sorry, but what's wrong with you guys for putting hid in fogs? bad economy my a$$ when every 16 year old can afford to buy a w210 and turn it to a civic.

16 yr olds. lol. i live in SD and when i walked into DDM explaining what i wanted to do, the sales man had auggested that going 55w all the way would be best and had never mentioned that they dont recommend it for fogs . He did say it would look awesome... and it does! if anything go with the 35 if u plan on really using them on a daily basis. dont forget the in-line fuse.

AND

i figured out that if lock ur doors with ur remote BEFORE you shut ur door when u get out, the courtesy light will not come on.
Then if you aim ur headlights and fog lights really far down and rub ur stomach while patting ur head u can avoid the wire harness burn out issue all the while enjoying lighting that is ment 4 teens to show a rite of passage and prove once and for all why the USA has the worst young drivers in the world.

I'm actually 18, not 16. No it won't be turned into a civic.

forget about putting 8000k hid's, i have a better idea. find a football field close by. remove the big lights that light up the field at night and fit them to the car. this way you won't give temporary eye damage to the incoming traffic like with hid's, but permanent vision damage, this way everyone will know how cool you are.

wow, you guys are just a bunch of old wineos... waaaaaaa........ EMBRACE THE TECHNOLOGY!!

whats wrong with wanting better lighting? do you not remember the old days of paying 800 bux for a pair of e-codes just to be able to relay a set of 65/100w halogens cuz the stock DOT housings/lamps were such **** that your couldn't see 10 feet ahead of you?

I got a set of OEM xenon's. I'm not blinding anyone, and unless you drive a street luge, i doubt my HID fogs are gonna bother you.

Anyways back to the original topics at hand. The lenses on my post facelift w210 fogs are glass, not plasic, just wanted to see if the bulb holder was able to handle the heat. I was probably gonna relay them anyways, just wanted to know if I should rely it off the fog harness or does it run at lowered voltage when it functions as courtesy lighting causing the relay to go nuts, or just tap it off the headlight switch...

personally, anything 8000k HID and over i find ghetto / civic / "right of passage".

a nice set of 6000k lows matched to some 3000k or even 2000k are the way to go.

But to each his own.
