Help me troubleshoot fog light problem
I received a defective lamp message for one of my fog lights the other day. I finally got around to replacing the bulb this weekend and it appears the bulb was in working condition and that its something else causing the light to not work. I now have to trouble shoot what is going on with my driver's side fog light. The wires and everything seem to be intact from what I could visually see. I haven't checked the fuses, but will be doing that later today. Any ideas on what else I should check out?

Get
out your multimeter(you do have one don't you?)
and test power to the socket.
Or you can back probe it with a test lamp.
Sockets go bad, harness for fog wires are known weak points, and you are correct start with the fuses
list of which are on the slot by the battery or on www.benzworld.org w210 diy section.

I don't have a multimeter. I can probably buy one of these at an auto parts store right? Any particular brand I should buy? Or will whatever suffice? Thanks Ohlord!

Also, check Radio Shack or like for inexpensive multimeter. Probably cheaper than auto parts store.
MB makes a repair kit for the fog light harness which includes socket and pigtail. Part No. A000 540 21 05 About $35-40.
Good luck.

I have replaced both fob light wires with the MB repair kits. E320 2000. Before that, the bulbs were intermittent. The original wiring did not have a ground wire. It used the frame for the ground. the repair kit had a seperate ground wire.

Harborfreight tools has
great little multimeters for under $10 sometimes under $4
And poster above is cdorrect about the upgraded harness for the fogs, but check the power and the socket condition before going down that path.

In my 98 E320 the left inside headlight does not work. Bulb was ok and we checked all the fuses, including the fuses next to the lamp module. Does Mercedes have a kit out for this malfunction? We suspected a bad lamp module But a faulty ground could be it too. Any one have an experience with this problem?

I checked all the wiring the other day. The "hot" lead wire had actually corroded so much that it snapped off from the plastic piece that is secured to the underside of the light fixture. Got the new harness installed today. Everything works like a charm! Thanks fellas.

Sorry, Friedolin, I was referring to fog lamp not head light as your post mentioned. I'm not aware of a repair kit for head light and generally those wiring harnesses are not a problem unless someone replaces stock bulb with higher wattage.
