Euro AMG Suspension

I am on the verge of buying a 2002 E55. I would like to set the the suspension to Euro AMG specs( it seems the car sits to high). Has anybody done this modification? Where could I order the parts and how much? Will my local MB dealer be able to do the work, and would it effect the warranty in any way?

Please post pics if available of this or any other suspension modification set up.

Thanks in advance for any info provided.

MB may not do it

You may have to find an aftermarket person to help you cause MB may not do anything that will take vehicle out of spec as far as crash protection. If they lower it any further, the bumper may not be at the right height for best protection in a crash. That is typically why the Euro models run a bit lower than the ones in teh states. I think Renntech may do that type of work.

You do know that the E55 is already lowered at the AMG factory? I have never heard of a lower Euro AMG suspension for the E55. I hope that you are not referring to the height of regular E-Class sedans like the E320 or E430. The E55 is not the same height as those models. You may be able to lower with aftermarket springs such as H&R or one of the tuners, ie Brabus, Carlsson, Lorinser, etc. and changing the spring pads to smaller ones. If a lower AMG made suspension does exists then www.bekkers.com may know about it.

As soon as I sell my E430 I too am getting an E55:

The AMG Euro Spec suspension does drop the Factory US E55 by about 3/4 to one inch over the US spec AMG suspension. The springs and sway bars are different I believe. The price is high and I personally think the E55 still rides too high even with the Euro Spec suspension. If you are willling to spend the extra cash then the Kleeman suspension sounds like the pinnacle at this point but I am very pleased with the H&R/Bilstein setup that I have. Here are pics of a factory E55 and then a dropped one with the H&R's.

Factory E55 ride height with #1 spring pads all the way around.

Here is a shot with the Bilstein and H&R Setup

Vic question about your setup

Thanks for the info Vic. Could you please give me more details on your setup? I am going to stick with original wheels and tire setup. Has the ride comfort been compromised (too harsh). Will my local MB dealer be able to this work, any warranty issues? How much lower does your car sit with this suspension setup. Details on price & where to buy this setup would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any info provided.

Bilstein's do provide a harsher ride, however "too harsh" is a judgement call. If you're worried about comfort, definitely get the Kleemann suspension. With it, you get the best of both worlds. You will out handle cars with Koni's or Bilsteins, and you'll be much more comfortable. I have the Kleemann suspension on my CLK, and it is extrememly comfortable (I had Koni's before). I could go on for hours about how great the Kleemann suspension is. Actually, if you check other posts of mine, you'll see that I have.

To: VicE55,

The offset on the AMG CL wheels are much higher, did you need to use spacers? Any modifications needed to fit? Thanks.

To: Mach430,

Can you give a little detail, ie. sound, advantages, gains, pics, prices on your RB Tech exhaust? Thanks.
