Engine/Acceleration Noise

I tried a search, couldn't find anything.

I just recently posted about a possibly fusebox/relay problem.

Anyways, after doing my brakes and bedding them in, I noticed after I started driving the car again it sounds different.

Now whenever I accelerate it sounds like the fan speed is connected to the accelerator? Whenever I accelerate I hear the fans get real loud. I can't even hear the engine anymore, just a loud blowing.

What could this be? It seems that the fans are always on now?

Your main fan (on the engine) is driven by a viscous clutch. When the car is hot (above 80-90C) it will be engaged and you hear a whooshing sound when you accelerate away form idle. It also engages first thing with the engine cold for a few seconds until the oil in the clutch gets distributed correctly. Obviously none of this is related to your brake job, unless you had a louder noise before that was masking your fan. Maybe because it's summer your car is getting hotter faster and you notice it.
Fan clutches tend to need replacing by 100,000 miles.

From what I can tell it is always engaged. It's not hot out yet, I was driving it last night and it was 70 degrees out, and it was making that whooshing noise all the time whenever I would hit the gas.

Ok, I have discovered what the massive air rushing/jet sound is: my fan clutch is done. I can not move it freely when the engine is off, and it goes with the RPMs of the engine.

So I'm looking around for replacements and I'm finding the Sachs one for $215-250, Beck Arnley for $166, and APA/URO for $153.

With money being tight, I'm wondering what is the difference and is it worth paying an extra $80-100?

Also, how long do I have until this causes some major damage? Can I still drive the car for a few more days before the parts arrive??

FYI, dealer quoted me $315 for the clutch...

Thanks.

I went with the Meyle for $140 that I found on peachparts' allparts express. I can't vouch for the longevity, but it works fine.
