e-class W210 1998 E320
Hi, my indy uses Castrol Syntec 5w-40 on my '98 E320. This meets Mercedes spec sheet 229.3 which is valid for 1998 - 2004 model years. Spec sheet 229.5 is also valid for the E320 for these model years (98-04) which covers Mobil 1 0w-40.
Does it really matter which oil is used? Surely the important point is that whichever oil is used it must meet the appropriate MB spec?

If it meets spec, you should be fine. I recommend Mobil 1 0w40 because it's generally the cheapest approved fluid, but if you're getting something else that's approved, should be ok.
