Can I retrofit my COMAND from my old 00 E320 into a 98 E300?

Can I retrofit my COMAND from my old 00 E320 into a 98 E300?
I'm inches away from picking up a 98 E300TD, I know I'm not going to miss the updated facia of my 00 E320 wagon much or the "body kit" but I would miss my COMAND and xenon lights, even just for the look of it. I know the Xenon will not swap over because the front of the facelift has a different shape but can I move my COMAND over before I sell my 00 E320?
Besides the unit itself, the wood trim, the bracket behind the trim and possibly the GPS antenna (tho i might just get a new one rather then swap) what else would have to be swapped over?
Any help appreciated!

contact Steve Krabbenborg from MbenzNL.nl. he has the best info on what can be done with retrofitting oem options to these cars. Has been highly regarded by memebers on this forum.

That sounds infeasible. The '98 does not use fiber optics. The '00 uses fiber optic D2B for communication with the amp and other systems. It would be easier to put a third party nav system in like the AVIC.

Installed one in my '99
I got what was needed fron Steve MBenzNL and did the install myself. Later had Steve install steering wheel controls as well. My car has the Bose system and uses D2B for the CD changer and CAN bus for VSS. Both can be tied into the harness that connects to the COMAND.
That said, my iPhone4 has better map detail and doesn't have to be installed in the car.

Does it have to be a special version of the COMAND unit tho, like some pre-fiberoptic model?
I have the stock unit that came in my 00 E320 US model.
I know what you mean, I have a Nexus One phone which has the latest Google Navigation 4.5 which even better then any iPhone (its pretty sick actually) connected to a euro CARCOMM car dock, but I still like to have the stock satnav "fo sho" because it make the car look like a much more luxurious car for anyone that sits in it. You know for the antique value, haha

I didnt buy the E300, instead just picked up a RWD!! 2001 E320 Wagon in SUPER RARE Tectite Gray (Tektitgrau) color. Did I mention its RWD!! Haha, sorry, I hated the fact the my old wagon was 4Matic and that it was gold, eww...
Anyways, I'm picking it up from Texas next Tuesday. So now the question is how do I transfer over the COMAND from one facelift w210 to another facelift W210.
