Help - can't get car into gear after suspension rebuild

I just finised rebuilding the front suspension on my '00 e430 4matic. Left side went fine and test drove car without incident. Right side upper control arm was a pain and I had to remove computer to access nut - see this tread. Computer went back together no problem.

Went to go for test drive and immediately after car started got error message "Display Defectictive ESP Visit Workshop" and worse car won't let me take it out of park - even if I wanted to take it to the workshop.

Have tried disconnecting battery for 15 minutes and disconnecting computer and double checking every connection. No errors found but problem persists.

Any thoughts on the cause and a solution?

Update - I used the pen trick to get it out of park. I have reverse and 1st gear only, speedo not functioning, check engine, brake, ESP, lights on.

Update 2 - I think I found the problem - a bent/broken pin on the ESP computer. Hoping the local electronic repair folks can solder me up a new pin - dealer wants $1k for the part. Alternative is breaker yards. I see a few on car-parts.com starting at $50.
