E320 4 Matic Transmission issue?
Need some help. Have a 2002 E320 $Matic with 168K mikes. Runs great until yesterday. Wife was going about 40 MPH when a whining noise started and the car hesitated and engine revs up but the car would not accelerate. At stop light it would barley go 2 MPH through the light. She called me and I immediately went to the car. I turned it on and it went into gear and was OK until I accelerated and whining noise started and car would not go above 10-15MPH. Made it home. Turned it off. Looked under hood and see nothing unusual. Started up immediately. Put in reverse and all OK. Started down the street and would not go. Tried to get back home and no sign car was in gear. Pushed to curve. Restarted and car went into gear and made it home. Backed into garage and again, no sign in gear and engine RPMs are high but slow to revs up. Turned off, came back an hour later and it started up and went into reverse. Now parked in garage until I figure it out. Someone tell me it is not the Tranny!!!!!! I changed transmission fluid 6 months ago using DIY procedures posted on this site and all was well. Any thoughts. I appreciate it in advance. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Did you use
mb spec fluid?
did you properly run it through the gears front and rear before checking and proper fluid level adjustment?
Do you have the special dipstick so you can check fluid level at operating temp?
Have you checked the electrical connector at the transmission to see if it is leaking?
Fluid level is crucial on the 722.6 5 speed
check at op temp trans in park engine running

Yes to all of the questions. Should I leave it running for 10-15 minutes and check the level again? Do I have to run it through the gears first? I replaced that plug (cannot remember the name of it but it cost $7.50) and everything ran well and I have noticed no leaks.

Idle it
till operating temp 80c
run it through the gears with e brake on and foot brake.
That will get the pump going and assure accurate level.
If low fill properly does not take much lowness to affect operation.
Always wipe the dipstick tube and dipstick of any debris when measuring fluid.
Good luck.
If not the issue you need to have it scanned for trans codes.

i have a 99 e430 and just last night i went through that same problem. out of no where the tranny started whining then it will rev but no acceleration. this is really frustrating due to the fact i was just about to put the car up for sale. not sure what the problem is but imma take the same steps as you did and see
