I've recently purchased this:

and according to this video, the mirror cover is taken off like this in this video:

HERE is the problem:

1) For my model, it doesnt have as much of a gap to press the retainer clip, in fact, its so tiny, that there's nothing there! Can't find any retainer clip, and I have moved it ALL the way back to the window.. here are some pics:

.. so, its a bit different than the one shown in the video.

Any help on these one guys? Much appreciated, 2nd comes the wiring.. which I may need some help with, cheers =)

Mirrors are identically like this pic above!

1) My mirrors are different model to the one in your youtube video. Mine is the facelift model, with stock LED's.
2) I think we just use the existing wires and plug it into the new LED wires... at least with my one.. since it already came with the wiring..

Yeah this is easy, if i had a camera i could have taken pictures tonight i did one!

just like in the video you have to find and unclip that silver clip and the mirror will slide right off, you may have a mirror setup like a 202 and need to bend the mirror forward, watch the w202 mirror removal on youtube

if your car doesnt have turn signals in the mirrors all ready you will have to run a wire from the turn signals usually from the front headlights...this will take you about 3 hours a side if you do it right..

Do I push the silver clip in with my blade or do I pull it out?

I'm almost there! Problem just lies within that bit.

PS Ive read the other threads and done searches, but those guides doesnt quite help my specific model, hence I created my own thread..

in the video you initially posted, the last 7 secs are crucial as it shows how
the latching mechanism functions. when pressed towards the car, the metal
tab allows the plastic housing to be pulled out. keep pressure on the tab
while pulling on the plastic housing.

do not rely on the video which shows that you simply press the tab, release
pressure on the tab, release pressure on the mirror, and then pull. if you
rely on this method, there is a chance that the metal tab will just return
to locking position.

you may need to use wooden block to hold the mirror folded back and which
gives you two hands to: 1) press metal tab with one hand, 2) pull mirror
housing back with other hand.

Thanks for the advice raymond.

I have got my friend to come to help out, basically what we did was, I asked him to hold back the mirror for me.

Second, while he was holding it back, with a scissors blade, i tried with all my strength to pull the silver clip towards the car, while he was pulling & keeping the mirror back, to no result.

Basically, the clip just bent towards the car, and nothing happened still...

I messaged the ebay seller, and he told me to unscrew the entire mirror from its bolts, but I don't see how unscrewing the entire thing would help at all... any more advice?

sounds as though you are doing it correctly. i think you and friend just need
to keep trying. you can try what the seller recommends but i dont think this
is a good idea at all. once you remove the mirror from the car, you lose basically
all leverage in being able to bend the mirror against the strong return spring and
to access the guts. if you do remove from car, you'll now need a bench vise.

your best approach is to keep trying WITH your friend. having 4 hands is a
big help.

see if this helps:


all you are trying to do is to move the pivoting latch a few milimeters to the left

the latch will clear the little ski ramp molded to the back of the plastic housing...

which allows the housing to slide free.

before you bend the mirror assembly back this time, be sure to adjust the
mirror so that the mirror edge closest to the car is BEHIND the plastic, otherwise
the protruding edge will prevent the plastic housing from being removed. in
other words, adjust mirror as if youre trying to see yourself sitting in the car

p.s. also try rapping the edge of the plastic housing with a wood handle or
something

before you fold the mirror against the car, try this: push firmly inwards on the
plastic housing. this is an attempt to get a scootch slack between the plastic
ski ramp and the metal clip.

my thinking now is that perhaps the metal clip is firmly against the butt end of
the ramp and there is enough tension to prevent the U-shaped clip from pivoting
freely inwards (towards the car) to free the plastic housing.

here is a 210 preface lift housing. the facelift model is about the same but only
with one ski ramp (from memory. it's been a year or so since I took it off)

Just a small update, took it to the panel beaters that spcialise in mercedes, even they said I have to remove the whole mirror by screws, same as the ebay seller.

Any advice? I will unscrew it tontight..,

they are incorrect, but if you do that, you may still be able to take it off though
i think it will be more difficult after you remove the mirror from the car door.
if I were there, I will bet I can have it off quite easily. so would your MB dealer
but it may cost you. it wouldn't hurt to try however.

perhaps you can drive by the dealer and slip one of the tech guys $10 just do
show you how. or first try something like "it fell off when someone bumped into
it and you think they put it on incorrectly...." and wanted the dealer to verify
that it was on properly.

hey raymond, i came across your reallllly old thread, and but cant find it anymore for some reason. Actually, your mirrors are IDENTICAL to mine!

And you had very detailed instructional photos showing how to do it, Ive got a grasp of doing it, but, could you possibly post up a pic of the tool you used to insert the into the small slot above the ski ramp?

i have two, 210s. pre and post face lift...ergo, two different mirror units and
latching systems. in both cases, I used a thin, long shanked, flat bladed
screwdriver. that's it. the methods used would be those seen on the
210 videos (pre/post face lift systems). nothing fancy. for the latching
mechanism similar to yours, i do recall that it defied all my efforts the first
day, leaving me frustrated. but after viewing the video and trying it again
on a different day, the mirror cover finally yielded and came off easily.

the screwdriver is inserted into that little tunnel, and the flat blade is pressed
straight forward against the shiny metal dogleg hook.

then, you move the handle away from the car, so that the flat blade moves
towards the car, like you have shown in #1. the amount of pressure should
only be 1 or 2 kg (not much)

in doing so, the shiny metal releases it's hold on the plastic mirror cover.

I'm sorry, but I was unable to make a photo/video. We had a huge rain storm
hit the city so I was unable to get to the car for photos....and won't for
several days until the storm passes (really, not fabricating excuses).
