2000 E430 Double Din conversion - Any done it successfully? or Where to buy TRIM ????
Well the subject says it all. we've got a 2000 E430, with single din radio, which we replaced with a fairly nice single din unit, added steering wheel controls, etc... but now the wife wants something better - double din with a screen and navigation
I've searched for the double din wood trim for a w210 2000 e430... NO LUCK, then I realize I missed one here this last summer..... OH WELL. Bottom line: I am going to be putting a double din nav unit in this car - AND I NEED HELP AND / OR ADVICE.
Does anyone either A) have the wood double din (command) trim piece? B) have any suggestions, pictures, details on cutting the existing wood to fit a double din (I really don't want to do that)
hey man... my bud Slammed_C has done it up in Toronto.... look here for inspiration .... http://www.mymbonline.com/forum/view...r=asc&start=50 .... i was going to do it but a little too much trouble and effort (it's hard to find the wood trim), so went with the single din replacement for now.... if you want i can email you an 8-page pdf write up of a 1-din to 2-din conversion .... good luck!
What may be easiest is to move your AC controls down to where the pocket is, and cut the radio and AC holes into one large hole that will be double DIN. A custom stereo place should be able to do this for you. You can find replacement wood trim on eBay if you want to experiment with one. The double DIN ones seem to hard to find at the moment.
I may have to do that.. I got an email back from the infamous "steve" at benznl (or whatever) to buy the double din wood trim.... After all is said and done around $450 USD, and I'm gonna end up with a bunch of dummy switches up there, because her car doesn't have the heated seats, it has the hazard switch and 3 other switches..... Sorry, I don't think I can justify $450 for a trim piece - plus the cost of the radio.

I did a little searching and I found a website that provides the part that you are looking for at a better price. I am verifying the part number, as per a benzworld.org post via Google.
W210 Double DIN Wood Trim - Part Number A210 680 23 36 -- 5400.
The 5400 represents all of the buttons being 'punched' out.
The part on the website, http://www.mbonlineparts.com/, lists for $368, but their price is $276. I'm hoping that this is the correct part. I'm emailing them just in case. I entered the part number as '21068023365400' in the search bar.
Remember, you will still need the double DIN cage to house your double DIN radio unit.
W210 Double DIN Plastic Bracket - Part Number A210 689 09 16. I entered '2106890916'. Goes for $30.75 on the mbonlineparts.com.
I'm looking to do the same project as well, but I've been putting it off as well. I just want to have the OEM COMAND unit, unless its easier to install an aftermarket unit. Good luck to you!

hey man.... ditto on swapping slots ..... i looked into that and was going to move the radio to the top or bottom (depending on the unit - 1-din with 7" pop up screen or fold down screen) ... sorta like a rack system, you can move the a/c unit so that the screen doesn't block your controls and you can get rid of the storage compartment .... you can pick up the 2-din cage at any auto stereo store for $10-20 .... good luck!
I'd love for someone who has done the hvac move and created their own double din from a single din trim piece, to see what the overall outcome looks like. Of course I don't want to be the first
Reviving this old thread because the wood cover for double-DIN conversion has gotten even harder to get.
Does anybody have one of these trim pieces they can take detailed measurements of? I want to 3D print my own but need the measurements so the stock Mercedes double-DIN support bracket behind it will line up correctly.
I paid somewhere around $200 for the burled walnut with all the correct cutouts from the dealer. I believe that is very resonable for a handmade highly detailed part...

In 2011 you might have been able to buy this part from a dealer but I have talked to several dealers and all the part #'s for this part show unavailable or no longer valid so they can't order it anymore- 2106802336, 2106809136, 2106809736.
BTW, I have a 2106809136 available if anybody needs/wants it that I am going to be putting up on ebay. The 2106809136 is a darker walnut color.

My local dealer couldnt get it either. Ended up going on parts.com and ordering everything. This was like 2013 or 2014...

Parts.com doesn't have them either. I think they are just middlemen anyway. Any parts I've ever ordered from them were all sent from local Mercedes dealerships.
At this time, these bezels are extremely hard to find. Best bet is to call breaker yards or troll eBay. Also, these bezels come in many configurations to match the equipment level of the car. If you have heated seats, headlamp washers etc there will be cut outs for the switches. If you find one with more cutouts than you need you can buy blanks for the unneeded cutouts. Not enough cut outs is a problem as doing your own usually ends up butchering the bezel unless you are experienced in working with this type of material.
Hi
