Tranny Limp Mode
This morning, my 2001 E320 4matic.....the tranny went into limp mode (Stuck in high gear) when I tried to accelerate. At the next light when I press the pedal, it barely moved until enough revs to accelerate normally. I pulled over and restarted the car and it was fine again (started back into 1st). This afternoon, I took it out again and again the tranny went to limp mode. Again.....restarted it and it went back to normal. No check engine lights on the dash both times.
I did a search and found possibly be the conductor plate? The posts I found weren't exactly the same so I thought I'd see if anyone has any idea.
Thanks!

Had a similar problem in mine. Took mine to an MB shop here locally and they said sometimes it can be fixed with a fluid flush....as particles in the fluid can block some of the sensors in the tranny. If the flush didnt fix it, then I needed the plate replaced. I had them flush the fluid. Worked fine for about a month, then the problem came back. Ended up replacing the plate.
Also, when mine was in limp mode, it would not go into reverse either.

I've actually been dealing w/ the same issue. I had the fluid flush done. But every once in a while, I've been having the high rev / go nowhere result from the transmission. My mechanic told me it might be the plate. Sounds like he may be correct.
RED66GT, any problems since having the plate replaced? How much does the actual plate cost?

Thanks for the info! I just went to the local auto parts store to get my codes with the OBDII reader. The only code that came up is P0120 which is a TPS/Pedal sensor. I called my MB mechanic and said it could be a bad sensor in the pedal and to try to replace that first. If not, it's most likely the Plate.
I just drove it around for the last 30 minutes without any hard accelleration and everything seems to be working fine. Will continue to monitor.......
Thanks again!
Here was the code:

Actually never received a check engine light or any warning lights. When I spoke to my mechanic over the phone, he advised to use the scan tool even with no warning lights.

The OBD system is for emission control equipment. The engine and transmission codes must be read by a MB SDS (Star Diagnostic System) at a dealer.
There is a coarse screen filter in the transmission which should catch any debris.

It happened to my car as well. One morning it just got stucked in 2nd gear & reverse. No CEL. No code from a generic OBD II reader. Have to drive it to an indy & hooked it up to a DAS. First code read was my shifter console module at fault. Erased all codes & re-read. Came up with weak battery-11 year old battery. Replaced it & so far been good. Drove 600 & evrything is fine. Have your battery checked.

Post #11 in this post is how mine met it's final demise. The car did throw a code.

And yes, replacing the board (or the plate) did fix it. Dont quite remember the exact cost. Think it was around $800 parts/labor if I had to guess.....

I had an identical Problem with my 01 E wagon, went to the dealer and they changed the accelerator sensor switch, it is mounted on the fender and has a cable going to it. My issue was it would run fine untill I did a forced downshift, at the next stop light I encountered your same issue. On a restart it was fine untill the next forced downshift, the dealer got a code P20DD-001 in the shop and replaced the sensor 2 years ago
