Hello and Welcome to the forum -

What year is your car? In any event the MB recommended oil is 229.3 or 229.5 for older models and 229.51 for newer.

Start by confirming the oil level with the dipstick. The display is nice but relies on a sensor which can be faulty. After making a trip with the car, park on level ground (important), wait at least 5 mins for oil to drain back into oil pan, pull out dipstick and wipe off, insert fully, wait 3-5 seconds, remove, hold horizontally to read. If oil is freshly changed and clear, lay the dipstick against a piece of paper towel and read the mark on the towel. Level should be at or very near top mark on dipstick. Range from top mark to bottom mark is about 2 liters. Small hash marks are about 0.1 liter each. Adjust level as necessary

If you get no further errors chances are the level was not set properly during the last oil change. If your oil is low again after 500mi, you either have a leak or are burning oil in the engine.

The maximum oil consumption is 1 l per 600 mi for low mileage cars. Older high mileage cars with worn engines may burn more.

-I checked the dipstick and was about 5 mm under the maximum,is that mean 100/200 ml low oil ??? and the computer still showing ADD 2 LITER OIL. Can this be reset somehow or ???????

5mm down is about 1/2 l.

How is your battery? Over 4 yrs old or not OEM? Bogus error messages sometimes indicate a failing battery.

- Like Ohlord said; for CDI use 5W40 fully synthetic oil (I run Valvoline SynPower, look for "MB 229.5" on the container)

- Did you change the oilfilter insert? If so did you remove the old O-rings and replace them with the new rings supllied with the new filter? Did you tighten the plastic filterhousing 100% (you won't see a leak until removal of the engine cover)

- Check the hoses around the Turbo for leaks, a Diesel will burn motoroil!

When my car was delivered the latest Oil spec was 229.3
229.5 will be FINE whatsoever

5W40 229.31 and 229.51 are for CDI's equipped with a sooth-filter. The W210 CDI's are all of the first generation and have none...

I wouldn't do that to an older car. And certainly not when having oil issues. If you play, you pay!

Another (stupid) thing that came to mind; if you recently got this car, are you certain the right dipstick is in the engine?!?!
Can you post the numbers that are on the red handle on the dipstick? it should start with the engine type. 613xxx in my case, I believe yours is 611xxx

The factory recommendations have changed since the W210's were built.

For US vehicles -

MY1997 and older - 229.3 or 229.5 for either gas or diesel engines

MY1998 to MY2004 - 229.3 or 229.5 for gas and 229.51 for diesel

MY2005 to present - 229.5 for gas and 229.51 for diesel

Might be different on your side of the pond

From my first post in this thread -

"Range from top mark to bottom mark is about 2 liters. Small hash marks are about 0.1 liter each."

Yes Richard, I believe there are some differences in relation to gasoline and diesel quality issues outside of Europe. I do know the US runs lower octane gasolines and for diesel slightly different cetane and sulphur levels. All I know is that 229.5 is better than anything my engine was originally filled with. And when I search German, Dutch, French MB forums I keep finding snippets stating that "the 229.51 spec is for diesels with particulate filters, and that 229.51 oils should not be used in most gasoline engines."

The sensor is located in the engine oil pan. It's pretty straight forward to install -- just one bolt and one cable connector. However, if your engine is like the V6 (two part oil pan) there is no gasket for the bottom half of the oil pan. The pan is resealed by creating a seal with sealant.

Two sensors were used so double check part numbers but try Part No. A0061533028. On a three year old MB price list it was $96.00.
