Car is idling loudly

Hello everyone! I have a 2001 E 430 with 122k miles. The car has never had plugs wires changed that I know of. As of late it is idling loud. I hesitate to say rough, however it does get louder when in drive and at a stop or at idle. As soon as I press gas even the slightes bit it get much much quieter. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing this? I have thought new plugs and wires but was also thinking of the engine mounts... would they cause this kind of problem?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Most people describe motor mount sag as a vibration in the steering wheel when idling while in gear. It is reduced by revving the engine slightly or shifting into neutral.

Not motor mounts. Try to video record it with your phone if you can. Then upload the video to
YouTube. Copy and paste the link so we can have a listen

Pull off the serpentine belt and turn car on to see if the sound is still there. If the noise is gone then you know it is one of the pulleys and your in the clear. I had major work done to my engine.

Hey guys I just wanted to update you as to what I had discovered. The rough and loud idling was due to bad motor mounts. I had them replaced this last weekend and it is purring like a kitten now. Hard to even know it is on it is so quiet. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.
