2003 E500 Wheels on 2001 E430

Hey everyone just as the title says, I'm planning on getting a set of 2003 E500 wheels and putting them on my E430. I know the size are the same but the bolts are different, besides getting new bolts do I need to know anything else before buying these?

The wheels I'm getting look like this :
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/atta...wheels-005.jpg

The ones I currently have are:
http://www.kenrockwell.com/mercedes/...l-KEN_7994.jpg

Also, what do you guys think look better? Should I go for it or not?

Thanks!

the wheels look nice and should fit without a problem, just dont pay too much. People are upgrading their wheels all the time so you can get some good deals if you are willing to look. I picked up a set of 18 inch w211 sport wheels with newish conti tires for $600.

Illest,
Thanks for the fast reply and opinion!

I was thinking about trading my current wheels for his with in addition to maybe $100-$200, does that sound like a good deal to you?

Also, don't the W211 have a different bolt dimensions than the W210?

Lastly, do you have a before and after picture of your car?

Thanks again!

The bolts are slightly larger in diameter, but as to their length it can vary depending on the model of the mag just like ours(w210).

Good luck.

CKonstantin,

Besides changing the bolts that's all I need to worry about right?

Also, bolts are not too expensive I assume.

If you buy originals they're pretty expensive(about $5 each which adds up to $100+tx), and I'm not sure how trustworthy are the chinese bolts from eBay...

As per my research the center(hub) hole is the same, check the off-set just in case but it shouldn't be an issue, so the bolts would be your main worry, I guess, check if you can reuse yours, otherwise you'll have to improvise.

With MB the biggest problem is the bolts have to be just right if they're too long they'll rub against the brakes in the back, if too short - well you can guess what will happen. As to w211 vs w210 bolts, I'm not sure if the threads are the same or not, I know that the 211 use 'new' style bolts which are thicker than ours not sure if it's just the stem or the threads as well though...

I see, I'll confirm with a wheel shop what I need once I get the wheels and I'll provide an update on what we need to go from W211 to W210 wheels.

Thanks again for the help!

your 210 uses 12mm with 12R dia bolts. the 211 uses 14mm w/14R ball

so if you follow through and purchase the 211 rims you will need to purchase
12mm bolts with hybrid 14R ball to fit the rim's 14R ball seat. should run you
about $3 each from RADUSA/Otisla

the length of the bolt should be long enough to extend out the back of the rim
by .5 to .75"...no more or it may cause damage.

one should attempt to be cheap and use the 12mm 12R lug bolts as the bearing
surface of the ball will not allow for sufficient bearing surface within the 14R
seat.

There are some pics of what the wheels will look like here

I have not installed mine yet because I am lazy. Once you install them make sure to keep a set of your old lugs in case you need to mount your spare.

Hey everyone,

Thank you so very much for all the great replies!

I actually worked out a deal with a close friend to trade his 2003 E500 wheels for my 2001 E430 wheels.

Based on everyone's reply, I need to get 12mm bolts with hybrid 14R ball. Can someone confirm this before I go through with this trade?

Also, as for my friend with his 2003 E500, how will he mount my old E430 wheels?
Would he also need to buy a new set of bolts?

His wheels look like this:

Thanks again everyone!

whoa.....your friend wont be able to fit your rims with 12mm diameter bolt/holes
onto his car which uses 14mm bolts.

you may be able to buy bolts with 12mm diameter bolt and 14R ball seat....

but your friend wont be able to source 12R ball seats with 14mm diameter bolts
as they don't exist.

Well, after talking it over with my friend...It would cost me more to take his wheels and get a new set for him than just buying my self a used/new set...

Now I'm currently interested in the AMG monoblocks since it seems cheaper to go with a used set haha...

I'm wondering if I can fit these on my car and if so, what is a fair price to buy this off him for?

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/pts/3044676066.html

Also, I know this isn't the 18in from our model but I can't find anyone with them.

Will the 17s still look good on my E430?

Never had a problem w 19"s before. Sold my MB's 19"s to replace them w aftermarket ones for the looks only. Never a ride issue. Then again I have a wagon, so cross country rallies are not part of our daly driving. On the other hand, the 42 mile daily commute felt very confortable on the 19"s specially on the tollway.
