no one ?

This fundamental info is reallly NOT in the owner manual (ony says if light comes on go to Stealer)

I have conflicting advice from 2 mechanics. one says ATF is fine and other says only MB Power Steering Fluid or ruin the seals !

Someone must know what to use in the e240 1999 w210 petrol V6 2.4 litre !

Do not use

transmission fluid, that guy is a fool that is using info for old school systems well before your w210.
MB fluid or pentosin rated mercedes spec.
MB Power Steering Fluid
MB Part No. BQ 1 32 0001
Pentosin CHF 11S
from the horses mouth
If your system is low you need to inspect and find the leak at the seal etc.
It needs to be flushed at factory intervals and not doing so creates leaks in the seals.
That and using the wrong fluid

Ohlord,

BIG BIG THANKS ! saved me a lot of bother in case i trusted wrong mechanic.

For sure, i know the RIGHT mechanic to go to out of the 2 that gave me same advice as you correcetly did - MB fluid or pentosin as above.

Will order tomorrow and check for any leaks.

Am surprised the owners manual does not have ANYTHING in there on this. my other 2 cars all have technical stats in owners manual on this stuff.

it still stuns me that the mercedes manual does not have this basic information. my jaguar and porsche have all this info in the owners manual. thought it was basic info.

its what forums are for i suppose to get opinions and collective knowledge.

thanks both of you -again. much appreciated.

No worries. You’ve contributed aplenty to our forum.
I’ve also used CHF 11S in MB’s recirculating ball steering gear and early pumps with absolutely no ill effects.

Me too

with the wagon self leveling I could have sworn I used the pentosin and its been in there trouble free for about 60k miles.

Question CHF11S vs ATF

Out if curiosity, is there any benefit in using CHF11S rather than ATF(lets say a good synthetic one) in an older vehicle which was originally filled with ATF as a power steering oil at the factory?

Thanks to all.

Question How often do we change it?

ohlord,

I didn't know there is a factory interval, please advise. I do brake fluid at 2 and coolant at 3; oil change dictated by FSS.

Thanks,

Musikmann

1993 190E 2.3, 2001 E320 Base
2001 E320 Base:

How can I know if the system on my car takes synthetic or non-synthetic fluid?
The owner manual says use: MB power steering fluid only.
I called few MB dealer and some told me to only use non-synthetic since it's an older model and should be using non synthetic. And some others confirm that my car should take only synthetic.
Please advise.
