Question Looking for instrument cluster, and have few questions about it.

I am looking for a 2001 E320 Instrument Cluster. One guy on eBay said there is it least 2 different clusters for my car, and said something about the matching serial numbers, for them to work? Anybody have any idea what he's talking about, and what do I need to know to purchase the correct instrument cluster.

Also, will the cluster lets say for example from E430 same year or 02, will it work on my car? If not, which models/years can be cross installed?

The reason I'm replacing, is because my thermometer and clock pixels went out.

It's actually illegal to sell an Instrument Cluster due to mileage discrepancies per FEDERAL law. So, please becareful!!

If they are illegal, why eBay allows users to sell them? There has to bee some kind of legal loop hole then. The reason I'm replacing, is because my thermometer and clock pixels went out.

Mine hasn't failed yet, but takes 10-15 seconds after motor starts for tach, fuel, temp gauges to come up from zero, so I started to do some research...

I have never used a cluster repair service

That said, there are a few who advertise on eBay they will repair your cluster for about $200.

search eBay for

<table class="li rsittlref"><tbody><tr><td class="pic p140 lt">
</td><td class="dtl"> Mercedes-Benz Instrument Cluster Displays Pixel Repair

</td></tr></tbody></table>

I bought the ribbons, and thought it will be easier to replace them. But I have no idea how to solder the ribbon to the glass, because that's where the connectors are on the display, right on the glass, but the other end solders to the board.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
I can supply one

it is not illegal to install a used cluster. If you were a dealer you would need to disclose the mileage discrepancy on the sales document. private party need not do that.
No coding needed. Just sold one to another forum member last month.
Plug and play with warranty.
PM me.
bbc reman is now over 5bills for a rebuilt unit.

Another good reason why I would NEVER buy a used car from this gent----Version coding not required---WRONG, If you do it correctly. It is legal not to disclose the correct mileage on a private vehicle sale---WRONG

Look at the back of your registration and you will find a statement regarding the correctness of the odometer at time of transfer.

Regarding the the correct IC part number. That is important to make sure that the services are reported for the correct VIN---an extreme example would be to put a diesel IC in a gasser.

When you do change do it correctly and get the IC version coded for if nothing else to reflect the correct mileage. Good Luck
