96 E320 4 Speed Trans Slipping

Hello everyone !.. I’d like to share my troubles…maybe someone else has had the same experience. 96 E320 147k. Yesterday when I left work I pulled out of the parking garage got to the 1st light. It turns green I step on the gas and nothing.. thought I hit the gear selector and put in N, but the car moved forward so slowly. After many people beeping at me I managed to get to the shoulder and pull off into a side street. I left it running and checked the trans fluid, level ok. Shut off the car and restarted it.. drove home ok (20 miles). On the way home it threw a p0400 EGR code, nothing to do w/the trans unless there is a vacuum leak??. History is I bought the car w/92k on it.. had the dealer flush the trans, and drove it for 8 years.. now it has almost 150k and really had no major issues with the car. Its been a great car.. I’m going to clean the EGR and tubes/hoses.. check for leaks.. and change the trans fluid.. Maybe change the conductor plate… and or the 13pt connector?? This happened 1x, no noise, and after I restarted the car it ran fine….
Questions I have are…. What type of fluid I should use?? After reading posts here I’m not sure if I should use MD fluid.. (will they give me 7speed fluid ) or if I can use Mobil 1 full synth? And does anyone know for sure if the 96 has a drain plug on the Torque Converter? And can anyone tell me what model Trans is in my car?
Car seems OK now but I don’t want to drive it to work on the skyway and risk getting stuck in traffic.. the tow home would be $$$$...
Any thoughts / replies are welcome…
Many Thanks !!
Dave

you have a 4 speed. There is no conductor plate or electrical connector since it is a vacuum modulated transmission. Unlike the 5 speed electronic 722,6 that needs mb spec fluid for the 5 speed you can just use DEX3 of any good brand. Yes you have a TC plug.
If it is running fine now you either have a vacuum line leak thus the egr code or the trans needs to be adjusted. suspicion would lead one to think since you have no slipping issues now some line is loose or brittle and leaking. If you DIY get out the flashlight and start searching,if not take it to a good indie shop that works on older MB's and explain what happened and when and have them examine it.
In the future just drain don't flush the trans.
