2001 E 430
Getting Services done somewhere other than a dealership.

I am a recently new MB owner. I have a 2001 E430 that was given to me by my brother after he upgraded to a New 2011 C class. Anyways, the service B is now due and I personally don't have the money to spend on it at a dealership. I have a line of credit with Firestone who has worked on all my previous cars Mazda 3 Ford F-150. My question is would it be a mistake to take my benz there? I have spoken with the manager of this Firestone and he assures me that he has 2 qualified and certified mechanics that work on foreign cars and can perform the services that need to be done as it pertains to the service B. Any help and knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I think I would try and find an MB independent shop. MB's are indeed foreign cars but a slightly different breed than Firestone sees on a regular basis. Same can be said for Pep Boys, Goodyear, and a lot of other chains. Who worked on the car when your brother still owned it?

Definitely don't go to the dealership. An independent shop specializing in Mercedes or BMW would be best but if you have a relationship with this Firestone shop, they should be ok. All you really need is an Oil change. The oil for this car will cost you about $8/quart x 9 plus $20 for the filter plus about $20 labor, so about $110 or more from a shop.

It cost us DIY'ers about $50 as we find the materials on sale. Its actually a very simple job, easier then most cars because we pump the oil out from the top and don't even need to go undeneath the car or get dirty. Takes about 10 minutes to do once you've done it a few times.

Someone up here may be able to recommend a shop near you if you let us know what town you're in

Don't go to Firestoned

they are not qualified to work on the w210,don't have the knowledge or the proper tools.
pm me if you want a list of jobs you can easily perform and what needs to be performed based on miles etc.
On a budget we can give you a list of must do's and how to do,or where to have it done.
