DIY Cup Holder Replacement

Does anyone know where I can find a DIY instructional on replacing the cup holder in a 2000 E-Class? I know there is one out there as I have viewed it in the past but now I can't find it (when I need it of course). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

you just pull up, there is a small hole against the back of the cup holder and you just hold and pull.

If you buy new from MB, there is a small booklet enclosed with instructions.

Re: Rephrased

I should have not asked this question in this fashion. How do I get the entire assembly out? I need to replace the lid and the housing...the actual cup holder is fine. My fault...

Not meaning to be arrogant, but that cupholder is the first thing I'd remove from the car.
There's a ton of horror stories about drink spillage in the gear selector causing the car to go limp and serious $$$ to repair!

I understand that you want to keep your nice car in original state, so I would keep the cupholder (or a new one) with it but not install and use it...

Re: Videos

I didn't see any video detailing how to take the lid and housing out for the cup holder. There was a video detailing how to disassemble the entire center console however, I can't even get the video to play correctly. The only thing I get is a green screen with the audio playing. Found the original video on You Tube and had the same issue...

Regardless, I don't want to disassemble the entire center console. But thanks for the response none the less.

It's either the cup holder or my lap...and I'm not up for any skin graphs. Actually, I haven't had any issues at all while using my cup holder (knock on wood) and there is constantly something in it...

well then, you're going to have a little difficulty fixing that lid. that video is 99%
of the procedure. the other 1% is viewable when you peer from the inside.
you should probably pay someone to do that for you're too apprehensive
or unsure.

Raymond, I have to take the entire center console out to replace the cupholder lid and housing? That really bites and yes; I am way too apprehensive to tackle that myself. I can do many things but mechanical tasks are not one of them...

I wouldn't trust that worthless cup holder for anything. Yanked mine out the day I got it. POS.

Once you know how removing the center console is fairly easy. Just six screws and a couple of wires. When the console is out the two screws holding the cup holder housing (from below) can be removed.

Is n2it really Plutoe in disguise. He asks here about the cupholder, and is advised it just pulls out, and that maybe its not a good idea to use it. Both reasonable responses to his original query...and he replied to those reasonably.

When he asked the same thing on Benzworld...well see for yourselves:

i sure hope picking nits with people isn't going to become the fad thing to do
here. i dont expect people to write with precision. i also dont expect them to
have a level of skill similar to mine. if they need help, i'll jump in if i have insight
related to their need.....and try to help them save them a few dollars.

why do we feel the need to parse words and turn it into fodder which make up
spousal arguments, soap opera, drama queen stuff? geez it's "E-class 210"
stuff folks, not will you marry me? etc

Yep, I made it over here...long before you. Your latest outburst on the other forum is the centre of great ridicule.

You called Check Codes a buffoon regARDING HIS ANSWER ABOUT THE cUP HOLDER...AND YET YOU GOT EXACTLY THE SAME ANSWERS ON HERE... JUST PULL IT OUT AND MAYBE DON'T USE IT...and yet no one, not a one on here was called a buffoon.

You're an angry young man, calm down, smell the coffee, don't get so personal. When you call every member of a board a "complete frickin moron", and still look for their help...you've clearly lost the plot.

BTW...Rob, aka, ohlord, does not suffer fools gladly.

Alternatives?

Reawakening this thread, since it's where I first saw a recommendation to remove the cup holder.

I just bought an E320, which was missing the cup holder. Was planning to buy a replacement and saw this thread. I need a cup holder in my car (far too many highway miles to go without) - does anyone have an alternative to using the stock cup holder? Has any aftermarket company made an alternative for this? I'd even be okay with one that couldn't be folded out of the way.

(Wandering off, pondering a holder made of polished wood to fit in that hole...)

I removed my cup holder and typically any coke can, red bull, road pop etc fits in that compartment and sits flush on the bottom. If I have a coffee mug or mc d's cup I just hold it while resting on the console. Thankfully it's an auto.

The transmission control unit on the 210 hates liquid. Any spill around the gear change often spells doom.
