99 E320 phone mount with charger and BT?
First of all I am sorry if I am replicating a post but I could not find a complete info anywhere.
I am trying to install phone mount for my HD2 in my E320 '99 with regular radio (1DIN no Bose). I would like to have a charger built in as well as a way to play music from my phone and be potentially able to make phone calls through radio (not the end of the world).
Mount: I have seen many OEM solutions and I do not like any. I have suction mount solutions as they either do not extend far enough or are too wiggly. I am thinking about manufacturing an metal arm and than attaching a holder to it. I think I would try behing the wood trim between the dashboard and cebter vent, but the plastic there seems flimsy, so I am looking at other options.
Charging: I am thinking about attaching cigarette lighter adaptor to glove compartment light and then ataching usb charger to adapter and then running micro usb cable for the phone inside the dash and come out right next to the metal arm.
Bluetooth: I thought that there used to be a DIY for the Bluetooth puck but I canot find it and I am not sure if there is such solutiuon for my model and year. I figures I could run a tape adapter through the dash and connect the phone through 3.5mm jack to TAPE and listen through the speakers and use the mic in the phone, but I was curious if someone has more info on the Bluetooth puck for my model and year. I do not want to use aftermarket radios as I have not seen a classy good looking one with the BT built in.
Anybody ideas? I would like to do the mod as soon as possible and do nice pictures with it, so I would appreciate any input.
Thanks
Karel
Thank you for the reply. I read through the sticky from Skylaw, but I am confused. I have 99 E320 Wagon with the phone option (tha car was pre owned, but came with the phone which I took off). According to Skylaw the phone option was avilable starting in 2000. So that is why I posted this to see if someone has 99 with phone option and tried to do anything along this line.
I will try to read more posts in the audio section to see if anything applies.
Thanks again,
Karel
If you car has a CD changer (most did), you can usually tie into the back of the radio and use the CD changer input to create an AUX input for tunes.
Also, you might want to PM Musikmann. I think he did a similar upgrade.
