Lightbulb AMG 18" on 98 E 320 ?

Hi,

Anyone here has 18" AMG wheel on there w210? Please post a pic. I am thinking about putting them on, wondering if it is going to look good.

Also, what price should I offer him with the tires?

Thanks

Which ones/model are you talking about - the stardard E55 issue i.e. type II's?

Check out this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...0&pagenumber=1

and the W210 gallery in Benzworld (MBNZ.org) if you haven't already done so. There's also pics of quite a number of other options.

I had the style/type II's before I had the AMG kit (a bad pic on page 6 of the thread above) and thought it blends well with the stock body, although the design is rather mild so I'll probably swap for some other brand (e.g. Carlsson) or Style III's (new E55 standard) later.

If you're considering a second hand set, beware of guys out there who'd want to rip you with the same style wheels that fits other models. I was sold a set with the correct front wheels but the rears were for an old S or SL that uses the a different offset. They fitted the hub OK but although the rear wheels were actually wider than the fronts, they tucked in almost 10mm further than the fronts In short, make sure the wheel dimensions are as follows and they'd fit nicely (you'll see the measurements on the insides of the wheels):

Front: 18x8", offset ET31
Rear: 18x9 offset ET35

Mind you, if you change the wheels, consider lowering the car if you haven't already done so - it looks very odd if you don't.

Unfortunately I can't help with the price as I'm not located in the US (FYI, I paid HK$6K (Approx. US$800) - for the set, with Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

My $0.02 worth.

Also checkout Tirerack's site (Tirerack.com, I think) - it has a page ("see wheels on your car") that literally allows you to see different wheels (size, model and brand) on your car - in any color option (unforuntately only side view )

Thanks Whitey

Thanks Whitey,

My friend took off 18" AMG FROM S CLASS.

So far this is all I know, it came off from S Class. I like the rim it has low profile almost new tires.

I was checking to see if anyone has done it.

Thanks

OK Merc1, that means you're getting the set I wrongly purchased before . You'll find the rears have an offset of ET43 (or 45?). Like I said they fits fine except the rears will be tuck in 10mm further (out of alignment with the fronts) and it is quite noticeable. Also, when I installed the correct rear wheels, I found I got much less body roll and less wheel spin on takeoff in the wet - the wrong offset obviously has an effect on the geometry of the car.

If you look carefully at the old pic of my car in page 6 of the thread of W210 pics and compare it with the new ones on page 1 (after AMG kit upgrade), you might just see the difference - sorry, pics are pretty bad. Good luck,

S-Class and E-Class cars have different offset as was mentioned before. Having the wrong offset can cause rubbing inside your fenders. Check out Tirerack.com and run the numbers for the bigger wheels and find out what the actual wheels you need.

Fortunately I did not have rubbing on the inside with the S-class wheels (also checked when I subsequently swapped them for the correct ones).

The offsets I mentioned above are the standard AMG setup for those wheels (18") and would fit perfectly, even lowered (the rears look like they'd rub on the outside but in fact have never done so on me - AMG've maxed it to the very limits already).

S-Class wheels use 14mm lug bolts and the W210 uses 12mm bolts. It is not a good idea to use a 12mm ball seat bolt in a 14mm ball seat lug hole. Here are the specs for the Aero Monoblock II:

W210
18X8.0 et31
18X9.0 et35

W140
18X8.5 et47
19X8.5 et46
19X9.5 et46

Yep, the guy ripped me off with the W140 9.5" - no wonder the 265s seemed to bloat more when I got the correct wheels! (I know, I know, its the recommeded tire size for the 9" wheels ).

However, the lug bolt thing is a bit scarey - that ba$tard tried to kill me! No wonder handling was better - no wobbles!

Merc1 - look for another set! There's plenty on E-bay.

Thanks Whitey and all....

I am glad asked, I was about to buy this morning, I will go there and see the specs on the wheel and try to post, Maybe it is different.

Whitey, I know how you feel, I had someone pull this off on me, I bought something on E bay for $500 and it is useless, I am trying to modify it and it costed me more money and time and still no luck. I have gotten wiser now. I wont buy anything till I am sure it will work for me.

I love this FORUM

what is the correct offset for 97 E420

I'm looking to buy a set of rims as well and most of the ones on eBay have an offset of 35 mm whether they are staggered or not.

If I want a set of 18" rims not staggered, is that ok?
What about 8.5" vs. 7.5"? what would be the correct offset for these widths?

This one looks promising http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2424716370
but he says the 18x7.5" has 38mm offset and 18x8.5" has 35mm

Would that fit? The tires should be 235/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear

(9 1/2) is the width of the rim in inches
(18) is the diameter in inches
ET is the offset of (23mm)

The stock wheels on a E320 are:

7 1/2 inch width
16 inch diameter
offset of 41mm

I think that they would be too wide. I would only go with an 18x7.5 in front and an 18x8.5 in the back with a tire size of 235/40/18 in front and 265/35/18 in the back.

I'm pretty sure the wheels will stick outside of the fenders - especially the fronts.

As for unstaggered 8.5", a lot fo people do it - you just need the correct offset to go with it (especially the front). There was an earlier thread where I'd asked another member about his 8.5" setup - can't remember where.....
