Motor mount Vibration, Advise PLZ

Hi,

Need your input please.

when i start to drive, up to 8 MPH car vibrates. and than it goes away. To describe the vibration, it sounds like
"BuRR BuRR"

Here are some facts.
1. Opened hood, 1 foot on the brake and 1 one the gas, car being in D, I press gas and notice Left side engine goes up 3-5 inches. When I put in R the right side goes up 2-3 Inches.

I think my motor mount is causing the Vibration.

Or do you think my Tranny Mount is bad, I dont know how to check them without lifting the car?

1998 E 320 74k

Please Advise.

Thanks:

I never had the pleasure of reparing one of these (thank god) but it does sound like your motor mount.....When you are driving and when it changes gears does it pop? If it does then its your tranny mount....but from what you said, it sounds like the motor mount....This normally is a cheap fix but since we drive mercedes who the heck knows that its going to cost you....maybe an arm and a leg or maybe just an arm hehe.

Good luck bro

The motor mounts for my CLK430 cost me $80 a piece.... I think.... don't quite remember.

If you have access to a floor jack, you can check if the bolts are loose.

My motor mounts were ok, but the bolt that goes there was gone... on both sides!!!

If you take it to a independent MB shop, it should not cost too much.

Thanks Benz,
Appreciate your effort. I have bought 2 motor mounts and also Crankshaft balance. I know my motor mount is bad, specially left one. I paid $60 each OEM from the dealer.

There is nothing wrong with my Crankshaft balance, however it is known problem on 98 w210, so I decided to change the crankshaft balancer. I paid $60 also for it.

Now this problem mentioned above started 2 days ago, I am pretty sure it is the motor mount.

Your tip about changing gear and it pops, well it does not do that. So, I am relieved and based on your tip it doesnt sound like tranny mount along with motor mount.

Dealer wanted $700 to change the mounts and the crankshaft balancer. I paid $180 for all 3, and the labor is free in exchange for 2 hours of computer training to the head mechanic. Not BAD..
:p

He did mine brake fluid change, tranny service, spark plugs, fuel filter, radiator flush, oil change & filter(synthetic Mobil one) Differential fluid change, air filter and AC filter, for around $290 in parts Thats all. Not a Bad deal...

I will post on monday after the mounts and Balancer if the problem goes away.

Thanks all for your input.

I checked on the bottom of the car and the bolts look threaded in there. Did you check your top or bottom, could you please elaborate. This would help me bring the parts on monday along with the mount.

Merc1,

I checked the bottom bolts on both sides. You should check both top and bottom bolts. As there are 2 bolts to each engine mount.

I don't know how to elaborate... I jacked up my car, looked at my engine mounts, and there was no bolts holding it, they were just setting on the chassis.

I talked to my mechanic that fixed my car, he said the mounts start to go bad around 60K on most Mercedes. But he has never seen the bolts just not being there....

hope this help

Problem Fixed.

Changed the motor mounts, and runs great.
Also changed Crankshaft balancer as a precaution, noticed rubber was warped in the back.
