Climate control

Hi all

I'm not able to turn the EC off, no matter what I turn on or turn off the light won't come off... Will this mean that the system is out of gas?

Cheers,
Sondre

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have a look into it tomorrow It 's not like I miss it, I live in Norway and since it's winter it'll rarely get warmer than 0 degrees Celsius... :P

Check your codes on the climate control unit. It's easy to enter the diagnostics of this unit. If you have a code for the clutch ( like I did your hosed)
I got the code for the clutch which set the EC light.
By the time it forced my system off, the compressor seized up.
I fixed mine my self and it has been working great in the AZ desert.
Luckily I got my compressor from TX for 250$

Good luck.

Bill

I do suspect it may be out of gas but I don't know How can I enter/check for faulty-codes on my climate control unit?
Cheeers,
Sondre

READING ACTUAL VALUES:--------AC must be running to retrieve actual values!!
Ignition---position 1
Press the auto button and set temps to 72F or equivalent C
Press the Rest button for 5 seconds or more
The left side of the display will show number"1" and a value for In car Temp
Then press Auto again for the next number and corresponding value
Keep pressing and writing down the numbers and values till "12"
To end the process press Rest----you are half way done!!

READING FAULT DIAGNOSIS:

Ignition in position 1
Set Left Temp to LO
Set Right Temp to HI
Within twenty seconds simultaneously press the rest and EC for more than 5 seconds
The screen will flash "dl R"
Now press the right Auto button one at a time until all faults are displayed and recorded
All faults must be read out before they can be cleared.
To clear all faults press both auto buttons for more that 2 seconds and a "d" will be displayed on the left and "FF" is displayed on the right

Now go back and reset you cabin temps---ignition off------end of test

Good Luck and after clearing the faults there will be no red light on the EC button, but will return if you do not fix what is faulty.

In your case that will be late summer, Oh well
I didn't manage to do the last part(look at marked text in quote..). But I got a wide variety of numbers when I did the first part(read actual values). Not sure what they mean though, if I'll post them here some of you might understand something?

What does these values actually mean?

Well, I'll gotta give it a second go then. I'm not too worried about losing the functionality of the AC but it would be nice to know what's wrong with it...

Sorry mate, I didn't notice that you had noted the meaning of every number in my quote. But thanks anyway! I'm out to try again now :P

Wow! Thank you!! This wasn't bad at all, I do not care to much about the AC but I will get it fixed anyway. Nice to get things sorted... I do not see any hints to having a bad coolant pump in everyday driving, the car is always "cold" (beneath 80'C). But if the codes say so I should probably change that too.

What is the main purpose of the sun sensor?

Cheers Plutoe! You're a great addition to this forum

Yes, I am aware of that. I just ment that if the coolant circulation pump were really, REALLY bad my engine coolant would most likely get hotter than normal and even boil!?

The main purpose of the sun sensor is to detect the sunlight inside the cabin and increase or decrease the fan speed. It is located in the dash board near the windshield, the failure of that will not affect any of your ac function.

Ah, more like a trouble-maker this sun sensor then? I'd like to control it myself at all time

Yea, looks like it's time for a quick stop-by the local workshop to get it filled. Hopefully it's just empty...?

Ah, it surely plays a bigger role in controlling the temp than I thought. But I am rarely bothered with extreme warmth here up in cold Norway so I'm not sure if I should bother change it...? Th AC-system will be fixed though!

I tried, but cannot get the second test to work. I followed the direction exactly, no matter how long I hold down the EC and Rest buttons, nothing happens on the screen.

Had the same problem, try having the hi and low temps opposite of what the directions tell you to. It worked with me that way

MY 2001 E430. I get one E61 416 error code. Does that mean Coolant circulation pump gone bad. I do hear whising sound coming from center vent.
