Seat SRS signal
About half the time I get an SRS warning light on the dash when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. It ends up being an intermittent problem as the person sits there. Any ideas on possible bad connectors that I can juggle or is it a matter of removing the sensor out of the seat and replacing it?

Does the lamp go out when the passanger connects the seat belt. Alternatively there is a passanger seat recognition sensor that may be faulty.

A common problem is one of the leads from the passenger seat occupancy sensor gets cut on the sharp edge of the hole that is passes through under the seat. The wires connect to a yellow harness (airbag wires usually are yellow). If you can repair the wire you should be ok but it's tight under there. Would be easy if you can remove the seat. i ended up replacing the sensor but it really was only a bad wire. Afriend of mine that does auto upholstery did it for me

I fitted an emulator tonight...just finished in fact...took all of an hour and twenty minutes.
The seat comes out really easily, four bolts on the floor and onr for the seat belt.
Disconnect all plugs and lift seat clear.
I followed the lead from the yellow plug to where it went through a hole in the metal base of the seat. It was the classic cause, the wire was chafed and actually the white wire was completely severed.
I cut the cable tie and managed to cut my finger on the metal base...that's how sharp it is and WHY the sensors fail.
I removed the yellow socket from the carrier, snipped the lead about 4 inches from the socket...and then soldered the emulator to the three wires...white to white, brown to brown and red to red. It was that simple.
I re-installed everything...turned on the ignition...all lights stayed on...but then went off after the test period...hallelujah...it worked.
I suppose I could have fixed the wire...but there was no room even with the seat out.

I had to perform this surgery and all I can say is if you can find a upholstery guy this is probably your best bet. I did mine with my Indy guy and we both agreed that it was a PIA. Even more so if you have air pumps for your seat which I did and it made that much harder to remove. I won't even get into the small clips from hell that had to be removed/cushion.
In short find a upholstery guy![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
BTW mine had a split in the seat harness and it also had random SRS light
*There is also a possibility that the air bag could go off if someone is sitting int he passenger seat. I think I read this on benzworld. Something to do with malfunctioning of the SRS system. I also read the reason why there is a SRS system on the passenger seat and not the driver is due a baby seat sitting on the passenger side (Germany?). Food for thought
This is also why there isn't a SRS box in the driver-side.

The seat occupancy sensor is only on the passenger side because it is used to detect if someone is sitting in the seat. If that person is too light to turn the system on...then the srs will not function in an accident...typically when a small child is sitting there, when an srs would cause more damage than the accident.
You don't need one on the driver's side because...when the car is moving there will always be someone sat there.

Makes sense. I had to change the module a year ago so I couldn't remember exactly what the function was hence the linkie provided.
