Installing subs and amp in 1998 w210 e320 sedan.

Does anyone know of any tutorials on how to do this. I have a kenwood woofer box with 2 10" subs and a 1000 watt amp sitting in my garage. I heard the battery is right behind the back seat in these cars so the installation shouldn't be too hard. Would it be worth it?

Your battery is under your rear seat...this makes running the wires to your boot a breeze...Buy an amp wiring kit first obviously. I ran my cables to my boot through the side of the rear seat...just tape them together than poke them through..the wiring is pretty self explanatory also. RCA run to your head unit along with the amp rem (the thin cable). I just ran these under the carpets, but it's up to you how extreme you want to go with this.

12v from battery to amp

Ground - undo one of the nuts on the underside of your parcel tray, place the ground cable over the thread and tighten back up

Rem and RCA cords from headunit to amp.

Pretty easy stuff..

I still have the stock Bose sound system and stock head unit. Can I just split the wires going to the real car speakers and run that signal the amp I remember doing this on an old American car I had, I didn't really wanna dig too much stuff up on the Benz.

uh, no you cant do that..You may be able to bridge them somehow..not sure though...you need to run RCA's and Rem wire to operate aftermarket amps..im not really sure how the bose systems are setup...probably better to get advice from someone who has the same setup.

Personally i would buy a new headunit and run the lot off of that. But im from New Zealand. We do things differently over here haha

Sorry there were some typos in my sentence but I meant to say. Sharing the signal that is already going to the "rear" speakers and running that to my amp I think this may be called bridge. I guess assuming this works I just need to know where to run the remote wire, is there any place in the back of the car?

the original amp in your car should have a remote wire running to that...you could probably bridge that also...but your still stuck with the RCA problem..to get the best performance from your system, all of your wires should be run to the headunit properly though

1998 Mercedes Benz E320 audio wiring information.

What make and model is your amplifier? Some amplifiers have high level (speaker level) inputs, so you wont have to use a high-low converter.

The amp is a kenwood 1000w amp. Model KAC - 8103D. The way I had it set up in my old chevy i didn't need a high-low converter i just tied some wire on the existing rear speaker wires and ran those to the amp imputs. Can I do the same in the benz? Also where would i run the blue wire I am trying to avoid lifting up carpet and stuff since the battery is already back here.

The Kenwood KAC-8103D does feature speaker level input, so you'll be able to tap into the rear speaker wires at the factory amplifier. In addition, you'll be able to obtain the remote turn-on wire at the factory amplifier as well. The attachment in my previous post has the speaker wire colors, remote turn-on, and amplifier location for you.

Cool thanks man is it possible to do all this without effecting any of the preexisting mercedes wiring? It's not really clear where the am is located from that pdf doc.

The pdf says "left wheel well", but the Bose amp should be on the right quarter panel, behind the trunk lining.

make sure you get some LOUD subs. that trunk is very well insulated. I got 2 12" rockford fosgates, I think they run about 250-300 watts each.. I have em wired up in a special way to give em both FULL wattage.

Sounds great but nothing too wild. If your lookin for that loud bass, your gonna hafta cut some sheet metal or get some really fckn loud subs!

Before I got em off a kid who had em in a Buick.. things would rattle your chest. Not so more in the super insulated benz trunk

I bought a 2nd hand sub box with a Kenwood 12" sub. My only concern is spare wheel access being restricted. Not sure how to overcome that.

Just make sure it's not too much hassle to remove the sub and amp... It's not THAT often you need to look at/use the sparewheel, is it?
