96 E320 A/C Problem...
The air coming out of the right side passenger vents is icy cold, but the air coming out of my side, the drivers side, is warm. Some one mentioned to me this might be the actuator, does anyone here have an idea if this is the case? Where is this part located in the car?
Thanks for any help,
Marty.

Sounds like get expensive--Be sure before you change or do anything.
In your case that means doing the AC actual value and fault tests. Then post the data and you will get solid help. All else is pure speculation!!
Do a forum search for the tests, they have been covered at nausium!!

[QUOTE=martythebrit;5621375]Okay, here are the sensor codes;
1 - 39--in car temp
2 - 38--outside temp
3 - 35--L Duo valve
4 - 27--R Duo valve
5 - 35--evap temp sensor
6 - 64--coolant temp
7 - 22--refrigerant pressure
8 - ??--refrigerant temp-------you forgot to include the data
And the error codes;
Eb 1232----refrigerant pressure sensor
Eb 1233----refrigerant temp sensor
Eb 1234----sun sensor
Eb 1419----comperessor electromatic clutch
E FF
Now just to recap you followed the instructions and did take the tests after the car warmed up and the AC was set to max and then you ran the tests------Is that correct??
If not, then the data does not mean a RA-----then it's a doover

Okay, re-ran the tests with the car fully warmed up, the error codes are the same, here is the new sensor data;
1 - 22
2 - 35
3 - 15
4 - 13
5 - 11
6 - 97
7 - 16
8 - 61
After a while the driver side gets cold too, just takes much long than the passenger side.
Thanks!

Let the car run to 80C while the AC is set to 72 or 21(both sides) and fan speed at max.
When conditions met---do the fault test, keep pressing R auto untill all faults displayed--- then clear the faults---by doing the following---press both auto buttons for at least five seconds----when you see a "d" on the left and an "FF" on the right then the faults have been cleared.
It is VERY important that the faults be cleared before the actual value test taken, because in your case two important sensors are being reported as faulty---we will see now
Car is now at the above conditions and all faults erased-----now do the actual value test and do 1-8, 10,11,12, 20 and 21
Now do the fault test again ---did the faults come back
Any questions ask before you take the test!!

I finally got round to trying to do this yesterday, however when I press both left and right auto for 5 seconds nothing happens. I tried this multiple times sometimes holding much longer, nothing.
Is this the right combination to clear the codes?

Out Of Control!!
Ignition in position 1
Left temp at High
Right temp at Low
Within 20 seconds press the REST and EC buttons simultaneously for more that five seconds.
You should now see "dl R" in display.
Now press the right Auto button and record the fault number
Continue pressing the Auto button untill all faults are displayed.
To erase all faults---Press both Auto buttons simultaneously for at least two seconds-----now a "d" is displayed on the left and a "FF" will be displayed on the right.

Okay, ran the tests again as required, here is the sensor data;
1 - 23
2 - 48
3 - 28
4 - 23
5 - 25
6 - 9.4
7 - 09
8 - 40
10- 6.0
11 - 2.6
12 - 4.3
20 - 2.0
21 - 06
The error codes were the same as last time, so I cleared them.
After that I drove about 45 miles and retested, the errors never came back again.
Okay, the left side is still blowing warm while the right side is blowing cold, any ideas on how to fix this?
Many thanks,
Marty.

Every thing looks great except 7 and 8------you are low on refrigerant---the more correct procedure would to have the system leak tested, based on that result find and fix/refil and enjoy life!!

I've also had this issue before. Owning a E430, S500 and now E55 I can tell you by experience that your better off going to a AC shop and let them evacuation, then recharge your R-134a. The cold/warm side is due to low freon, but in either case you can try and fix yourself which will most likely cost you more money on the long run.
Last summer I had the same issue your currently having. Paid the man $140 and never looked back. AC troubleshooting can be frustrating and costly without the proper gear.
Hope that helps

The sad thing is, we went to a mechanic and he claimed to have recharged the A/C, that was when one side was blowing hot and the other cold.
Then he told us it was the actuator malfunctioning and it would be expensive to fix, but he could do. I had a bad feeling about the whole situation and walked away. Now I'm feeling like the guy scammed us....

Sounds fishy to me. Did you go to a shop that specializes in Mercedes? When I had the same issue and my AC read out stated low freon. I called around and ask if they A.know this type of car W210 and B. if they can properly diagnose it and fix it. I was surprised that a few said no.
I'd get a 2nd opinion
*Highly doubt your actuator is malfunction with your symptoms
