OUCH!!!

(Great pics BTW ... where did this accident happen?)

The back-seat area looks like it separated from the rest of the car too cleanly. I'm wondering if:

1. Maybe the car was originally two-cars, each car totalled (damaged beyond repair) in a collision, then good half's chopped off and joined together making one 'good' car (unfortunately, done quite often here in the States). A car joined like this is weakest at its welded-links ... and would likely separate cleanly at the welds when hit;

or

2. Maybe the rescue-team cut the car in an effort to extract the victims more easily?

Wink

Holy Schnike!!! That could be a new MBNZ safety feature, i.e., a break-away rear occupant saftey cage?<G>

Looks like the driver might have walked away from that one though; not sure about (if anyone was in) the rear seat though?!! Sheesh!! Must have been haulin.' Otto

I agree with drew, the lines in the back got cut way too cleanly for it to be a crash. Also there is very little damage (comparatively) in the front of the sides. Then again it could be that guard rail that sliced it in half like a knife through butter. In any case the is the worse accident for an E class I've ever seen!

hi again

im not sure how the accident happend, but it happened in Kuwait (where the Gulf War happened), and they might have taken the back side from the front side to help someone's life or for any reason. but it is really a worst i'v ever seen

How come airbags did NOT deploy in a BIG accident like this??

Kuwait? hmmm....i grew up in Saudi Arabia and if Kuwaiti's drive anything like they do in Saudi (Riyadh) people easily exceed 100+ as the norm on the highway and city by-ways. even with excessive speed i can't imagine how the front could get separated from the rear. scary.

I think the guardrail skewered the left rear door and they cut the car. BTDT. The right rear door of my 99 bounced off the blunt end of a guardrail at approx 80 MPH. Buckled the door, right rear floor, and pinched the roof. Side airbags deployed. Sleeping passenger in fully reclined right front seat not even scratched by shattered glass. Do all 210s have side curtain airbags?

Judging from the rear-end, this looks like an early W210 -- note the tall, squared-off high-mounted brake light, as opposed to the low-profile ones in current W210's. Also, the rims look like they're from an older E-class. I'd hazard that since this is in Kuwait, the car does not have the North American-spec number of airbags, if at all. Outside North America (and in the mid to late '90's), airbags were frequently an option.

i too think it was an early model, non-NA spec E. in any event, likely a "jaws of life" event. not sure bags would have helped a passenger in the left rear.
