E320 4matic wagon
![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I notice a drone emanating from the roof of my 2000 e320 wagon when the sun roof is open. It certainly appears to be noise from wind hitting the leading edge of the open sun roof. Anyone else have this noise issue?? I have yet to find a supplier of sun roof deflectors for my car. Any suggestions on where I can locate one?

beautiful wagon ! are you sure the noise came from the sunroof and not the roof rails. anyway, www.performanceproducts.com carries lots of accessories for the e-class. give them a try.
secondly, i love the wheels..is your car a 4matic? my dealer doesn't recommend "thin" wheels on 4matic model (i forgot what the reason was). this was the reason mbz puts only the "thin spokes" on the non-4matic '02 e-class and keeps the old "solid" wheels on its 4matic. might want to ask your dealer.

E320 4matic wagon
sun roof deflectors
Thanks. Many have considered the terms beautiful and wagon to be mutually exclusive. I have loved the look of the e-wagon for quite some time now. When unknowing sceptics see it, they have a better understanding why I like the car so much.
I am pretty sure the noise is from wind hitting the rear end of the sun roof opening. It sounds like a deep hum depending on the speed. I tried Performance products but they do not have a deflector. Most of what I have found are universals that one orders based on width of the sunroof...
Yes, mine is a 4 matic. The only thing I have heard from the service guy at my dealership is to expect rattles over time from the loss of cushioning with low pro tires. That is an obvious side effect. I assume that is what you meant by "thin" wheels, No??
here is another shot...

Very cool 4matic. I have a 2001 4matic wagon in white. I noticed the drone that you are referring to. If you lower the rear windows about 1 inch, the drone will disappear. Nice wheels. What brand, size and tire combo are you running? Bill, in central Florida.

E320 4matic wagon
WAS SUN ROOF DEFLECTORS
Bill, Thanks. The drone is almost a sound wave pulse that is very sensitive to speed and, like you said, position of the windows. The wheels are Carlsson 1/5 sml's, 18x8.5. I picked yoko avs db's, 235 40 18's. Since we do get some snow in NY and I didnt want to have dedicated winter tires/wheels, I went for high performance all seasons. The yoko's rated very well compared to the alternatives in the tire rack surveys and they are very quiet. Are they Max Performance?? no way, but plenty better performance and a lot nicer looking package compared to stock. The only other change I am making for now are Brabus sways (described as upgrading to AMG e55 sways) I want to maintain the nice low speed ride of the e class (again...for now
.
Enjoy your trip!!

E320 4matic wagon
sun roof deflector
Jame55, thanks. Love the car. Cannot beat black when it is clean. But keeping it clean and looking good, especially when it is not garaged, is tough. Only wish they make the 4matic wagon in a e430 or e55 version. I love a nice sleeper wagon...

2000 E320 4Matic
Gee, I don't notice this with my E320 4Matic sedan. I think it is the quietest sunroof ever. Must have something to do with the difference in the interior volume??? I do get the buffetting on my Lexus RX300.

KenC, great-looking car. I love wagons (not as much as sedans or coupes, but still a lot), and I think the E-Class is the best. Why do so many people hate wagons? I think they're so much better than minivans, and personally like them better than SUVs.
An E55 wagon would be awesome. There's an article in a recent Car and Driver about a RennTech version (E60--something like that?). Has anyone else seen it?
