Weird CD interruption

I have noticed a weird problem with my new E55 (less than a month old). For no apparent reason, while driving and listening to a CD, the sound is suddenly muted. After about 5-8 seconds, it comes back on.

When I get a phone call, the sound is automatically muted until I hang up, but this is happening even when there is no incoming phone call.

It has happened about every 2-3 days. Any ideas what is causing this?

I plan to see the dealer for their diagnosis, but this is a problem I can't duplicate on demand.

Anybody else, or just me?

Do you have voice mail ? When you get voice mail the system will systematically mute then un mute to alert you of such. Check you voice mail box and see if anything is in there. If it is, delete the msg(s). and see if this cures the problem.

You mentioned that the skipping was happening while listening to Cd's? It could be the skipping is being caused by rough roads! Same thing happens in my 2002 E55. In a previous AMG (C43 AMG) I had a similar problem; after determining that it wasn't being caused by rough roads (the CD's skipping), the dealer found a loose connection running from the CD changer in the trunk to the head/main control unit..which is, I believe all fiber-optic connected! I didn't have the phone problems you mention though! Let us know what the dealer finds out! Good luck! Otto

Not rough roads, could be voice mail

I had intended to mention in my first post that I had already eliminated rough roads, but simply forgot. Just today the CD system paused again while I was at a dead stop at a traffic light.

I will check to see if I have VM, that would be a logical explanation. I haven't thought to check it since getting the car!

If that fails, it's off to the dealer.

What Adam says also happens when you have a SMS message arrive.

(Im in Europe, and our COMANDs are subtly different though)

Well, my CD pausing has become a daily event now. I noticed that if I glance down at the navigation screen right when the pause occurs, the screen says "Loading CD" which seems to indicate it lost touch with the CD changer. I plan to bring it to the dealer to repair.

I noticed something like what KenE55 mentioned also. However, I am usually fooling around with the Comand Nav system which I have not mastered. But I have not driven the car enough to really operate the system. Today still only 124 miles!
