Unforunately can't find a photo of a W210 but these will at least show:
1) How it looks with white;
2) How the side impact strips fit in (on the S);
3) What's the inside that hole looks like; and
3) How it looks with the updated AMG skirts (on the SL):

Agreed and that was my point. 
The shop refers to it as a DTM mod, quite appropriately imo, as it needs a DTM kit..........

Saw something similar on a W210, execpt the chrome strip didn't extend to the door, looked very OEM. And clean it is....beautiful car (in certain respects the panels of that are similar to the W210):
