Are you refering to the upper spring mount? Where the the spring pad and spring fit in? If so, it sounds like the upper mount has pulled away from the frame due to the rust???. If rust has weakened the area, then simply welding back into place will not work. Also, the placement of the mount is critical to ensure that the ride height will be level. You probably should take it to a frame shop. They can probably reinforce the area and reweld. They may also suggest rebuilding that side of the frame with factory crash parts. This would involve more extensive cutting and welding, and would pass your auto insurance inspection (if you ever get into an accident that affects this area of your car).

I recall someone else having a similiar problem, I am not sure if it was on a W210, but try to search this board for more info.

The recall seems to cover preventative maintenance. From the benzworld posts, the "sem" sealer would prevent water from accumulating in the area in question.

I would contact your local dealer first, then Mercedes Benz directly. You indicated that some sort of glue is visible. Maybe the spring support was resealed previously and it still failed. Or maybe it is just the stock sealant you see. But if it did fail after the resealing, you may have an argument.

At any rate, if the above yields no resolution, you still need to get it fixed. Find a frame shop, for an estimate.

Same thing just happened today to my W210 '97 E420 with 88K miles.
