Paint bubbles found on the trunk lid!

I was washing my car the other day, found paint bubbles on the trunk lid, next to my license plate. Called the dealer, luckily, my is still under 50,000 miles. Dealer said paint job only cover 50k miles? I thought rust will be like 100k miles?

I was washing mine as well when I found rust bubbles under the ding molding, directly below the right side mirror, and right below the license plate on the trunk lid.
Dealer painted entire trunk, and lower half of front passenger door.
Keeping a close eye for the next 24,000 miles,as Im sure you will too.

Hi guys,
I am getting mine back from the dealer today. I too had rust on the trunk. My car is a 2002 E320 SE with 20k on the ticker. My paint was bubbling directly above the rear license plate near the left side top plate screw. It was the size of two quarters side by side. The dealer body shop took it in five days ago. How this happens I have no idea. I was about to get angry but then... for what?

In addition, I demanded my driver's side seat leather cover be replaced. At only 20K miles it started to look very worn. I am 5'11" @ 183lbs. No way the bolsters and padding should look this this! Of course they fixed it... it was only fair!

This is what Mercedes lists as their rust warranty.... like I don't keep my car washed? I guess that this is the vague statement that leans the warranty contract in their favor.....

Rust or Corrosion Warranty: This warranty covers the vehicle's sheet metal, and protects you from rust and corrosion that are severe enough to cause a hole - surface rust is not covered. However, if you keep your car washed and waxed rust shouldn't be a problem.

---also wanted to add, I convinced them to replace ALL lugs nuts due to surface rust. I just put 18" AMG wheels and the rustly lugs are just unacceptable. Even with minor dealer issues... it is still a great car!

Is rust only an issue in the NE and SE part of the US?

I got mine back yesterday at 5:00 PM. Looks pretty nice. I asked that it be spot painted instead of the whole trunk. I didn't want to deal with any peeling down the road so I figured this would help is the work was isolated to the rust spot. I still cannot understand how this happened. One would think that Mercedes goes to great lengths to build a superior car... maybe not!
