Loose rearview mirror. Has anyone repaired or replaced?
The rearview mirror on my '97 E420 made an awful cracking sound when I was adjusting it, and now it is loose. Has anyone had this issue. Is it something that can be repaired? If not how do I replace it? Thanks

If it is like mine ball and socket type joint cracks off inside so the mirror flops around. Depending on how bad it is broke, it can be repaired. Pull the base down off of the ceiling and unplug the power connection. The body of the mirror snaps apart and you will see where the joint is broken. You can drill small holes on either side of the base of the joint and with some stiff wire you can wrap around it and twist it tight.

There is a horizontal spring holding it in a metal clip. You just have to pull downward to snap it out. You can tilt it twords the dome light or pry it with a flat screw driver but it should just pop off. You may have to pull hard but do it from the base to not brake the mirror.
