4500 miles???? Have you done a Carfax check on it? Where was THIS car hidden with such low mileage?? That isn't even a years' worth of average driving. I'm not only jealous, but somewhat suspicious......

If a car gets a new engine put in, does that restart the mileage on the car?

actual miles!!

the previous owner was an older gentleman that lost his license due to being legally blind. I bought it from the dealer, Carfax clean, Starmark certified, original miles!! Not a mark on it and the interior still smells new

I have subscribed to an online service from www.alldata.com. The "do it yourself" subscription is about $25.00.

Not meaning to pry, but was wondering because the kids have one also.

Thanks

A new speedo/cluster will do that too. Besides, the odometer can be reset using a program. Unfortunately, unlike BMW's, Benz's don't have an in-built trip meter in the on-board computer so you can't verify either......

Thanks for the comps.

What do you mean good luck with the car? I don't think my speedo was tweeked. I bought mine in 2002 (3 years old at the time, since it was first registered in Jan 1999), with 15k miles - that was already considered low, even in my town where cars average about 6K miles/year. By comparison your's is a real gem! Judging from the condition of the chassis, suspension and brakes, my car did not appear to have its speedo altered. I made sure a thorough check was done before I agreed to buy - a practice I believe will save you a lot of troubles in the long run.

I've not had any major problems with my car but I don't drive a lot or travel long distances, plus I ensure it is serviced at every 5000K Km (3.1K miles). Battery changed after two months of purchase (but that's probably becuase the car was not used too much before I bought it hence the battery went dead beyond recharge) and the usual sparks, air and oil filter, bulbs, shocks, exhaust and brakes changes......then again, most were just excuses for the mods As a matter of fact, the bad luck was with wheels.....as evidenced by the number changes I'd been thru in the past 2 years...I really did have all the wheels in my sig pic

1997 E 420
I bought my 1997 in December of 2002. At the time it had less than 11, 000 miles. I paid less that $22,000 for it. It was a once in a lifetime find - purchased through a friend of my father-in-law. This car belonged to a wealthy man who used it as his "Florida" car. Unfortunately, it has needed considerable work over the last two years - leaking diff, new A/C evaporator, leaking steering rack, new ball joints, a rear window regulator, and now, an idle stabilizer (the part alone is $1,309!! excluding labor). I bought an extended warranty from Fidelity Warranty Services, which has been worth every bit of it's $1,800 purchase price.

All in all, I still love the car, but I probably won't buy another Mercedes again. They recently announced that they will not offer free maintenance on 2005 models past 6,000 miles. Mercedes and their dealers make crazy money on service. Some of the work performed on my car was at the highest labor rate - $120.00 per hour!

My car currently has 50,000 miles. So the above repairs were encountered driving a little more than 20,000 miles a year.
