E300TD code P0560
I own a 1998 E300 turbo diesel with 117,000 miles in mint condition. I recently bought it from an old man who babied and garaged it since new. The car runs and drives fine, but every time I turn the car off it trips the check engine light with the same code P0560 - system voltage malfunction. I clear it, start the car and drive to my destination, no MIL when on the road, but sure enough when I turn the key off the dash reads "check engine electronics" and trips the MIL with a P0560 code. The battery is only a year old and tested good. I pulled the alternator and had it bench tested at 13.1 volts. I went ahead and put a new Bosch voltage regulator in it while I had it out. All terminals and connections are clean and tight. This is driving me nuts.

I spent many years in the elevator trade trouble shooting electrical issues. One one issue I had that drove me nuts was a diode that was fine until under a current load it would open and cause an issue. Just saying..
But have you tested voltage when is running or have you tested the negative post to the negative ground wire while is it hooked up not running? If you read voltage from the post to your negative lead that is your voltage drop. It may be as little as 1 or 2 volts.

Hey sorry for the delayed response. I took on a new job and working way more hours. I revised my original post to be more accurate if you wanna go over it again. So I start the car this morning, no MIL, diesel engine purring like a kitten. The battery reads 12.7 volts at the terminals after a cold start and slowly build up to 13.6 volts in about 2 minutes. I don't know why it takes 2 minutes before it hits full charging power. I shut the engine off and disconnect the negative cable. From the negative cable to negative battery post it reads 11.9 volts. Is this normal?

no and
0560 is the system fault that relates to three seperate and different OBD voltage faults 1610,1612,and 1615(the K40, Terminal 15 and Control mod Voltage)
your problem lies in one or more of those three systems
now realizing you are a diesel expert with loads of diagnostic tools your next step is very easy, however if that is not the case your best bet is to run to the closest MB dealer or wait till the car dies.

The E300TD is a nice car and all, but I'm selling it and going back to my Nissan 350Z 6 speed, a better car in my opinion and much more fun to drive.
