Is this too much play in the bushing? I'm assuming these are likely original, the rubber has no tears, and looks intact. I don't want to go through all the work of replacing it if it does not need to be changed.
Looks "loose" in my opinion. I wouldnt say it looks like they need to be replaced at this time, but they probably should be replaced if youre going to keep driving the car.
I have a 2010 W204 with 160,000 miles and im about to replace those bushings due to wear and the rubber looks all swollen probably from the road salt. Bought the special tool for around $200 to remove/install them due to the odd shape of the wheel carrier and tight clearance.
Change it. Bushing should not have any play in it. Let alone move around like that.
But then again, just how long are you planning to keep the car? If not too long, maybe good used will do. If you planning to run it to the ground, change it with good brand, new unit. BTW, if one is like that, rest is about to go too, so change all of them. Not just upper or lower pair. All. Unless of course, you enjoy jacking up the car and take off the tire, get under it. You got the point. If not, change all of them.

This is just it, I've been going back and forth on selling it for a while. Ive had some new shocks and springs that Ive been meaning to install for quite some time. Its also had a slight front end vibration since I've owned it, after I finally found the time to get under it, I noticed the tie rod ends were torn, as well as the upper ball joints. The rear had developed an obnoxious squeak from the control arm bushing as well. I picked this up as somewhat of a small project for myself, Ive only recently gotten time to try and update some of these items. Before selling it, I wanted to see it through, and hopefully with the repairs/upgrades I can squeeze some more out of it. Even if I end up not selling it immediately, I can enjoy it until i do...I figure the old 55 is worth it for the small cost of these parts.
Around $45 for new Lemforder bushings. I believe the Genuine MB bushings are made by Lemforder. If you already dont have the tool then another $45-$200 depending on which one you get or make your own. Looks like easy access so shouldn't be difficult to do.
Yeah not too bad. As for as lemforder stuff, I ordered two sets of the front bar end links and both bushings tore off when I was trying to install them. Not even crazy pressing, I tried actually to sand down the rubber nub in the bushing to get them on easier, still wouldn't go on without either tearing or pushing that bushing out. Terrible design imo.
Got to lube em up! I have used dish soap and mb lube to help pop them in, then dead blow hammer hit.
Also the tool was like $39 dollars on Amazon. Those rear outer looks like toast. you will hear a knock from the rear when cornering eventually.
I was using silicone grease before, ill try the soap or maybe a different grease. Are you doing this off the with the sway bar off the car?
Tool you're referring to is the bushing tool I figure, Cheapest one I see on amazon is $90. Although it looks good, Ive seen the cheaper eBay ones bending and not being as effective. I tried to use a chisel to get it out, didn't even budge. Looks almost fused...likely original...Yikes!
The bar off the car when I replace the sway links because I am usually replacing the bushings too. Yes, that is the tool and looking back I paid $100 KTC MBZ2002. No, air hammer the outer rear bushing out maybe but then the challenge of reinstallation. The tool makes it easy and exact..
