Exclamation Missfire or what is it?

I ma not sure why my car does this. When the engine is running and car not moving, it sometimes vibrates acutely and goes away. It does not die. WHen i press the gas pedal, the minor occaional vibrations goes away. What could be? is it normal? Is possibly related to the after market air filter not passing proper air to the engine ? Or could be a missfire? What is amissfire anyway? Please help.

When was the last time you replaced your MAF? Mine started doing this at first and later progressed to stalling and very sluggish acceleration.

It could be a number of things...timing, dead spark, MAF, clogged air filter etc.

No offence, but you seem to have loads of issues with your ride lately which seems unsual, I'd suggest taking her in for a full check.....just a thought

Not really. loads of issues !!! I just had a question about this little occional twich when the car is running idle. It runs great still. I just wanting to know what could be !!! The Air filter is very clean. I bought it from NAPA auto parts store. It matched the original airfilter in size and quality.

Go back and check your connections. I guess there is a possibility that the MAF was bad when you put it in or got something on the sensor wire?

Something you might check is your engine coils.
There are 3 of them and you might have problems with just one.
I had a similar issue about a year ago. It will rough idle but once you get up to speed, it will be fine.

Also could be spark plug connectors.

Good luck.

Not an engine mount that is for sure. It starts easily and smoothly just fine. It can not be spark plugs. I am wondering if it is the fuel filter !!

change the plugs and connectors. It may need to be done anyhow and will cost you $100 in parts and about an hour of your own time.

Mine's a 97 E320. Same job though... Search the threads to learn how to do it, and make sure you buy at least a 9 or 10 inch socket extension before you remove the engine cover. Otherwise, it's just about the easiest job under the hood.

If you think your car misfiring, don't you think that the engine check light would come on. I know it will but, have you checked that or noticed it? If not, then maybe it just has a hiccup.

When a vehicle detects a misfire that exceeds "normal limits" it illuminates the check engine light and sets a P-Code that corresponds to the misfiring cylinder. I suggest you use an OBDII scan tool to check, the last number in a P300 series code tells you which cylinder is misfiring.

If that is the case, it is not missfiring then. It can not be. I am thinking it may need a tune up @ 50k miles. it is now 47k.

28k and mine does that slightly also when idle, as additional information it has been sitting for 12 months... got everything checked and oil changed, run like hell still and that's about it?
btw, what's MAF and what does it do?
