'98 E320 Wagon
I just replaced mine on my '98 E320; got it from Phil at FastLane (www.mercedesshop.com). Under FastLane's Special Order Parts, order #1120940048 $299.00 delivered. It cured my occasional CE light (P0170) and also a serious hesitation problem under full throttle.

Steve

About electronic engine warning lights. Before you go buying a replacement MAS for three, four hundred bucks, consider cleaning the old one with non-residue carburetor or brake cleaning fluid. I just did our '98 E320. It took about 10 minutes. When I drove the car again, the lights did not come on anymore. (Will have to drive it longer to know for sure, but if they come on again, I'll clean the MAS inside even more thoroughly.) It stands to reason that some of the air molecules stick to the sensors inside the MAS. As these particles build up over the years, the MAS detects less and less air passing through, especially at low engine speeds. (In my case, stepping on the brakes in stop and go traffic agravated the situation, and that's when our lights would come on.) The oxygen sensores correct this error until it gets out of their range to do something about, and then the warning lights come on.

Like the guy told you before just click the link for ebay it is $165.00 there is no need to pay anymore than that. Also go by Autozone and have them read your trouble codes for you to make sure that it is the problem...it's free. Finally before buying do what the above guy mentioned and if it does not work then go ahead with the purchase.

Mass Air Meter
HT, the $165 MAM is new but works on a V-8 engine only. Its casing is molded differently from the one that goes into a V-6 engine. The one for $180 may be the correct one for a V-6 and is new also. The one at auction with 5 days to go comes out of a wrecked car. I think I would prefer to go with a new one and a Bosch factory warranty.

Online Store
Look here they have them rebuilt with a one year warranty for $121.00.
For the original poster the point is you can get it for a lot less than a lot of places that will take you for a ride.

Mass Air Meter sensor
I bought a MAM sensor for our '98 E320 for $145 plus $13 S/H from mbfixers@msn.com and installed it today. The sensor fits the 112 engine but in my case the barbs are a bit different and the connection is not secure. Had to rigg it a bit so it will not disconnect over time but it is a genuine new Bosch part and works perfectly.

I bought mine at http://www.importeccatalog.com/ for $144, which included shipping and solved my problems immediately. One day delivery, too.

Air Mass Meter!@#$%^&*
Foxden, are we talking about the same thing? I tried them at http://www.importeccatalog.com/ and this is what they offered for our '98 E320: B3130-98298 Air Mass Meter Bosch IN STOCK $316.00 $269.95

It is the air mass meter, but a different part number B3130-103753. Mine retails for $332 and I bought it for $144, but I have a 98 E300 Turbodiesel, which may explain the difference.

Some time passed in the meantime. No more troubles with the MAS. I have made a point not to mess with the air cleaner filter and will not allow anyone to inspect it. That's when the problem originally had started - at the dealership after a service. The car was returned to me with the engine warning light on and the news that I had a bad MAS. I was furious and told the service manager to return the car to me without touching anything further. I now have 140,000 miles on it, original MAS, original spark plugs and O2 sensors, (will soon need a new muffler though, $450 at Advanced Auto Parts.) I have the original brake pads in the rear, original rotors up front with only the second set of brake pads. Had electrical troubles though and the ignition key computer was replaced. Now, when something controlled by the computer does not work (windows, door lock etc, I disconnect the battery (this resets the computer) reconnect it after 10 minutes and resynchronize everything per instructions. The only work done is a regular service when called for or if something actually has worn out. :-)
