Intermittent curb view mirror operation.

It seems as though the passenger rear view on my 2001 has some sort of illness. Some days it operates as expected, others it remains in the dropped position until I fool with the adjustment knob or drive 40 miles.
What gives? Is there some sort of trick to this "feature"?
I can disable it for either or both mirrors on my new tahoe, but I cannot locate any means by which to change the settings in the 210. I find it quite useless when it operates correctly, and far less than that when I have to correct it.
(I don't really need to see my rear tire when backing up, I'd rather see the garbage can or the trailer hitch on the truck next to me!)
Am I clueless (yet again!), or am I hoping/looking for something that doesn't exist?
Is there a way to disable this option by removing a fuse or disconnecting a wire, etc. that still allows the mirror to be adjusted with the switch?

(hope, hope, hope)

set the toggle in the positon to adjust the driver's side when not needed to adjust the passsenger side, that should disable the auto-curb assist.

No prob Although that feature is helpful in my case, with a lot of city street parking, it is annoying sometimes when I need to see higher up on the passenger side when reversing......probably in the manual but found how to disable the thing by accident anyways.

Anyways, whilst not quite 40 miles it should raise into its memory position (if you have memory mirrors) after a certain amount time but mine never quite gets back to the proper preset position and never in time when I need it

speaking of city parking how do you save your bumper from being scratched up.

"Defensive parking" (wasting time finding a "low risk" spot) from others....and from myself, see those round things on my bumpers' impact strips?....PTS sure is useful here

Thanks for the insight. I'll try to remember to push down the passenger selector button & keep it that way to see if that does the trick.
Regards...

Mirror With a Mind of Its Own

I had the same problem on a 2000 S-Class, and had the dealer replace virtually every part of the passenger mirror. Finally solved the problem by buying a 2004 S.

Don't you mean, "push UP"? Push down the driver's selector to disable to the passenger side.....

Doh!

I guess I was not paying attention.
This all seems to make a bit of sense now as i have questioned whether the thing was working properly in the first place. I'll bet the drivers' button was depressed (like me!), thus temporarily disabling the curbview feature.
Alas, I shall now attempt to "train" my wife on the proper operational procedures of the 210.

P.S. Don't tell her that I didn't already know all of this stuff

I pushed the mirror button down and no more mirror lowering. This has to be one of the best discoveries whitey. It was really becoming annoying.

Oh yes, if I'm reading this right, you're saying you'd depressed the driver's-side button AFTER the mirrors lowered, right? Yep, that sure would prevent the mirror from going back up.....but if you press the passenger's button again, it should return to (roughly) the memory position after a short while after you take the gears off reverse, as it normally would.

And yes, wifey needs to know the proper procedures.........

The Porsche is much easier to drive/function as it has none of these "new-fangled gizmoes" to distract me from the road.
