Feel a small bang in rear-end

When driving at low rpms, say circling around in a parking lot, I noticed that when I hit the gas lightly I feel a small bang in the rear. Almost, like someone tapped my rear bumper.

Any thoughts on the potential problem. I try to lightly apply my foot back on the gas to ensure its just not me juicing the pedal.

Thanks

Yeh it happens this sort of thing it could be your door locks/boot lock knocking... your CD changer if its in the boot sloshing around or your car jack ratterling in the boot...best thing is to get someone to sit in the boot as you are driving round the car park....

I get the same exact thing, it's def not something rattling around. It kinda feels like the rear housing is clunking, possibly the gears inside?? Too much backlash? Also i'm thinking could be the rear control arm bushings, if they are shot, it would allow the rear to roll rearward under acceleration causing the worn out bushings to clank.

I think that you are talking about the action in rear differential on the E-Class. It can give you a kick when you are going around a curve and give it gas. It feels like you get tapped on the back bumper.

well, i took mine to MB dealer and they said it was complete normal!
They even had it overnight to check it.

Mine is 4Matic by the way, and I thought only 4Matics had this problem due to 2 differentials

I get that kind of feeling too...but I thought it could be something to do with my gear box... kinda like a short jerk? happens when I floor it at low speeds after turning from a corner, feels like its jerking from the rear, like a kick at the butt.. :P

from reading some posts, i thought that it may be the computer that regulates your gear shifting. Does this kick happen happen when the gears shift?

It happens when you apply power. If you are in a turn, the outer wheel has to spin faster than the inner one. When you apply power, the rear end locks up and kicks a bit.
