Decided to change color of car..

I originally ordered Platinum Blue with Charcoal interior - Everest Green was my first choice but decided it might be harder to care for because it is a dark color. I liked the blue so decided to go for that. I knew the blue and charcoal was a special order however the sales manager didn't inform me it would be an additional $1,150 until the PO came back yesterday - as we negoiated the price he never mentioned this fee - he claims he didn't know it either. It doesn't show up on the MB website when you build a car. Seems he has not ordered that combination before. I decided I didn't want to pay it - it was never a part of our negotiated price. So I switched the color back to my original choice (Everest Green/Charcoal interior - which is not a special order) - I suspect I am going to be happier with it - it is a beautiful color. The car should be built on March 10th .

The JavaScript, or whatever, on the MBUSA "Build Your Own" page seems flaky. Sometimes it says that Platinum Blue/Charcoal is $1,150 extra, and sometimes it says $1,500. Sometimes it says that Everest Green is $680 extra and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to depend upon the sequence in which you select the interior and exterior colors.

Green isn't a common choice for new cars these days, but that doesn't mean it's a bad choice. Our deceased '97 BMW 528i was dark green ("Oxford Green") and it looked great.

Incidentally, neither the E320 (gas) nor the E350 is on the "Build Your Own" page. If you go by that, for us California folks it's either E500 or no E at all at the moment.

That will teach me...

to not use "build your own" in the future . I choose the green and then the platinum because it isn't a common MB color and both of them appealed to me. I am one of those "goes against the grain" sort of people .

Isn't it ironic? Even the computer software programming on the MBUSA website is "quirky". Its almost like computer programming causes a "mental block".

Even with the all the software quirkiness, there is STILL something to owning & driving a Benz that we all feel. Mystifying...

Just like Windows, it's full of quirkiness yet everybody still uses them.

I just picked up my Platinum Blue with ASH 2 days ago and I must say the color combo is stunning. The Blue color changes in different light and the Ash looks great with the Black Birdseye Maple. I just love the color combo and am glad I went with it. But...I am sure you will love your car whichever color combo you get...

Interior..

Your car is beautiful! I really like the blue (it is elegant) but I didn't want to budge on the charcoal interior - there is no way in the world I could keep a light color clean. I know myself well enough to know that a light interior isn't for me and you are right - I am going to love it no matter the color

wow....Plat Blue and Charcoal (that's black right?) interior is extra???!! There's no extra for that combo here in Australia hence my surprise that it's different over where you are. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy your color combo

Here's my Plat Blue with Charcoal:

No fair!

It figures it wouldn't be extra in Australia - I was right though - the blue and charcoal combination looks great together! Maybe I should move to Australia..... :p

I also wanted to get that color combo (Plat Blue/Charcoal), but the documation that I saw at the time clearly stated that the charcoal was a special order combo. Looking back, I would get the Pacific Blue interior instead of the ash. Unfortunately, I don't think that Pacific Blue is available anymore.

I am in full agreement with "Michelez". Going against the grain is my theme in a vehicle like Mercedes that has to be an extension of your personality. I chose Bordeaux Red for that reason. I also agree that a light color interior is a challenge to maintain which meant Charcoal for me.

It is always a factor of personal taste, especially when you are spending $60M+. I just wanted to have an uncommon color that is out of pattern for the mark which centers in Black, White, and Platinium.

I am scheduled to take delivery on Monday. Will report back shortly thereafter. Looking forward to having one of the few Bordeaux's on the Forum.

72 hours and counting.
