need confirmation on nav unit part number
Hello I have been reading this thread and many others and have been somewhat confused, I'm looking for the correct part number for the nav unit I need to install into the trunk of a 04/2004 E320 , I have been to a place for part numbers but really did not get anywhere, we do have the correct screen/head in the dash.
I took a snagit .jpg of this part listing,
www.bikershut.net/320/comandcodes.jpg
it for some reason will not show correctly on my computer here at home, I also read there is more than one unit out for the E class w211 body style what part number is the most current for the NOrth America (USA) version of the dvd nav unit in the trunk,
wow did i sound like a e320 newbie? I knew I did and I am
Thank you for any help clearing this up for us, I would like to get this unit installed for the wife (which btw she loves her E320!)
oops forgot, I'm not 100% sure what unit is in my dash I did take a pic of it as well

Your picture shows you do have the COMAND head unit necessary for navigation retrofit.

SUCCESS!
I'd like to say thanks to everyone on this thread that helped to answer my questions.
After acquiring a used NAV drive off ebay, and getting the proper misc parts from a dealer, I installed all the necessary parts in very short order: plug and play. No tearing out b-pillars or anything!
THANKS!

So the big question is, where did you get the NAV DVD, how much did it cost and how accurate is the data? Heard that a portable Garmin is more accurate and has a better street database.

It's accurate enough (I was getting signals from about 9-11 satellites), but I certainly understand how people find the interface counter-intuitive, to say the least.
I can't compare to other systems, as I didn't check them out. I was primarily concerned with integration with existing systems.

Spare fibre connector
Note: take the usual precautions when working with fiber cables. Do not crimp/bend them under any circumstances!
Clip the wire tie around the navigation wiring harness, and locate the antenna and power wires. (2003-4 MY would also have a fiber connector here)
Unplug the MOST loop connector to the AGW module behind the C-pillar (back of the plate where antenna cable bracket is mounted to.) Lightly pry the side of the plug housing to eject the fiber plug assembly.

Vehicles with COMAND preinstallation (Code U36)
Remove cable ties of preinstalled, strapped down navigation processor wiring harness and expose navigation processor wiring harness.
Wrap felt tape around preinstalled MOST wiring harness and MOST coupling housing and then strap down to on-board wiring harnesses.
The MOST wiring harness and MOST coupling housing are no longer required.
So.......... exactly what was that harness and coupling put in the car for in the first place?

Hey guys, I was wondering what I would need to install navigation on an 07 E550. I have the command with the NAV button, but when I press it it says "Navigation device unavailable". So would I just need the navigation DVD drive which goes in the trunk? Will it literally be plug and play or will wires and such need to be purchased? I haven't looked in the trunk yet but I'm hoping everything is pre-wired and all I need to do is plug the device in. Thanks a lot guys.

I would dearly like to know that also. For that particular connector, the MB retrofit instructions I have say:

Wrap felt tape around preinstalled MOST wiring harness and MOST coupling housing and then strap down to on-board wiring harnesses.

This one would need a new head unit, it could need a new AGW. It would need the navi processor as shown in this thread and the GPS antenna etc. But it can be done. I would suggest requesting parts from MBenzNL or similar source, they would be able to figure out what exactly you need.

I meant if you get them to install it...even then I think the dealer cost on the nav module is pretty high. I'm not sure of the exact price...other guys could chime in on this...but you could probably search on ebay for a better price.
