WOW!! I've never come accross that message. Does it just mean you need to mellow out a bit or what? What's the best way to cool those bad boys off? Just stopping could warp couldn't it?

p.s. How hard and how long you gotta push it to get that message?

At the Mercedes Drive Parties, they just park the AMGs and let the brakes cool down. Often.

Yeah, like I said we saw these messages all day at the AMG challenge. The entire M-F display gets this bright red color. I remember getting in one E55 last year at Homestead-Miami and seeing this message for the first time. I'm flying down the straight away doing about 135 with that huge banked turn and the wall beyond. "you worried about the brakes"? I ask the instructor. He says "Why don't you tap them to see if we still got them" But yeah, just wait a while till they cool down and you're set. Just proves though, that these cars are really not meant for the track.

he does this routinely in his e320, this was an e500 however.

on that night, he was going up his favorite canyon road. thats *uphill*

we are taking his car to the track in a couple weeks along with some other cars. i am curious how many laps it will take before the brakes go away completely.

That would my the work of me of course. I don't know how many laps the E320 brakes will handle. I am probably going to lose them 3 or 4 times during the day until there is no pad left. Then I will get the E500 brakes with spiffy pads on the car. The tires will be toast as well. The W211 would make a great JDM drifter. I need to be in a Mischeif video destroying Benzes. Those rotors have not warped, nor have they in any Benz I have dephiled.

Just goes to show how those that claimed they had the disc's 'glowing red' might have a good imagination. Either the imagination was working overtime or the MFD display has a problem. (No doubt the post will be amended to say how the screen was displaying the above message)

I would expect this message to appear at track events, and that is the place where sensible folks put the 'pedal to the metal, or the heel to the steel ) but if you get it driving on public roads then I would suggest a change in driving style?

We read of trips down mountain roads where the brakes are being applied excessively, and they are made to 'glow'. I still do not accept that the driver is behaving in a responsible fashion (unless the road is closed and there are no other road users)

Good luck,
John

sounds boring. we have access to very low traffic roads out here and late at night there is never anyone on them. i would argue that they are safer than the track because at the track there are a lot of idiots running off track jeopardizing the rest of us.

I got an all-red MFD a few days ago and I hadn't even started the car. I opened the door to get in, the SBC pump (or whatever) ran a bit longer than it usually does, then the car beeped and the MFD lit up with something like this in all red:

BRAKES
Reduced braking efficiency
Start engine

So I started the engine (something I was planning to do anyway) and the message went away and hasn't come back. Gremlins, I suppose.

One day you will either seriously injure yourself, or some or something else. Unfortunately you can very seldom get a wise head on young shoulders. I can always pull out onto a main road without looking because where I live there is """"very low traffic roads out here and late at night there is never anyone on them""""!!!!!

Like I said you are convinced you are right, and you do not live on the same continent as my wife and children so you go ahead and drive on public roads in the manner you have described.

John
I agree, there are lots of risks when travelling at excessive speeds on "low traffic roads" like bunny rabbits, deer, and loose pets. The deer are easy to avoid here in So Cal, just aim for them then swerve. If you do it right you will clip 'em in the jaw and tear off the head, but better to do that then smash 'em full on. The smaller animals we just crush, like domestic pets, bunnys, and such.

As far as other motorists are concerned there are some issues. Such as Acura TLs, BMW 5 Series, Infiniti G35s, and other vehicles that should be on par with our Es, but aren't. Besides, with AirMatic, I usually just run off the side of the road to pass anyhow.

Although it is fun to mess with more capable cars with less capable drivers like 996s, M3s, and such. The other drivers are cool with me passing them until they see my E320 badge, then they become irate and try to keep up. The road just continues to twist away and the other drivers can't keep their machine's stable.

I cannot agree more with that statement, however in reference to fast moving Mercedes-Benzes that is very much not the case. In order to afford a vehicle such as the Mercedes-Benz without a trust fund, or mommy and daddy, one must have a very well paying job. Logic says that in order to obtain one such position, a higher level of education is required. If a higher level of education has been utilized. In order to receive a higher level of education, one must have a wise head on young shoulders. Therefore if a young person is driving a Mercedes-Benz on their own income, at a young age, they must have a very high level of responsibility, intelligence, and ambition.

The vehicles involved in the run that caused the brake warning were as follows: 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-500, owner, 24yrs old. 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320, owner, 22yrs old. 2005 Pontiac GTO, owner, 20 yrs old. Young, yes, wise, must be. Logic also tells me that if you brought to the table what we do at our respective ages, you as well would be a performance driver in the finest German auto.

I find your other post quite repugnant and it speaks volumes about your driving attitude:

The deer are easy to avoid but 'tear off the head!!!! then you go on about crushing peoples pets!!!!!! What sort of person are you????

I am hoping that you are purely trying to justify your driving and exxagarating your driving style. Killing domestic pets is not something to brag about. It is sadly sometimes unavoidable, but surely it should be regretted and not something to be so flippant about.

Over here we have constant examples of highly paid young men driving high performance cars causing accidents and then running away. Last week a Premiership football player was sentenced to six months imprisonment for drink driving, he crashed an SL55AMG and tried to drive off dragging a telegraph pole!!! No doubt it wasn't his fault and the telegraph pole jumped out in front of him. No doubt he would 'crush domestic pets' and 'tear off the head of deer'?

Your post sir does not do you credit. I am sure on reflection you might want to reconsider either the words or indeed your driving style?

John
Can you take a joke? i really dont think those posts were done in any manner other than a joke! he might defend his stance but next time sift through the jokes and see the real point.

late night drive = driving drunk? your example proves nothing other than an NFL player drove drunk.

thank you for the reflections.

regards

"NFL" means "National Football League", referring to the ritualized warfare that we colonials insist on calling "football"; as you may know from American football's inroads into Europe, it's not at all like the world sport played by guys and gals in shorts kicking a ball up and down a field.

What we have here seems to be a cultural conflict between the British and American styles of humor; subtle understatement versus in-your-face overstatement. One style isn't better than the other, but they don't mesh well in text postings.

wow thank you for the "our sports are better than yours." modest brits? why do that!

but i really dont give a hoot since i never bother to watch american NFL based Football. Ill spend my time watching F1 or college Basketball

for some reason a dumb smilie hardly makes for a good joke. i would rather use witty text based communication for any uneducated poster could throw up a bunch of smilies in a row and think he was being funny. in fact i think i know a few posters who choose to do so and their posts are hardly entertaining.

sorry for the confusion about "football." Guess im just a yank but in reality i do know what football means outside the USA but it is not the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the term used on a message forum.

Remember one big thing! . . . Most oversimplifications such as these are usually false by design. I find it hard to believe that anyone in the UK is truly sitting there being jealous of the US.

It is good to be proud of your country, but it is not good to be arrogant about it. I truly don't think that you would ever find a person who has traveled the world and lived in other countries ever make a statement such as yours. At the same time, it is your right to have your opinion and post it.

Yeah! Because there are plenty of people from a crappy country who are wrongly arrogant & proud & don't like the US unless they need help.

:v (Just thought I'd throw that bomb in & run!)

do you want to know whats funny? i lived in london for a semester 3 years ago, so in light of that fact..... you are mistaken.

i was really just joking around, but if you want to get in my business over it. its not a matter of being arrogant, its about knowing when you are not liked throughout the world because of envy.
