E-Class Taxi

Hi guys,

I'm curious if you have Mercedes taxi cabs in the U.S. Some years ago I saw a W210 in Manhattan, but I think it was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz...

Here is a typical german W211 Taxi (E220CDI, 150HP, Automatic Transmission):

Greetings
André

W211 Taxis in India

just got back from India...The high-end hotels there have W211 cars as tourist taxi service...They were mostly white E220. I should have taken a picture...

Nah, pretty rare here in the US. Also, we do not have nearly as many stripped down versions that would be more affordable. Do all euro cars come with leather standard? They do here.

150 HP !!!!! Are the passengers required to push it up the inclines or are there holes in the floorboard so the driver could help scoot the car along...
Gotta say, nice looking taxi...

No, leather is allways an option. Except top of the line modells like E55 etc.

Haha, even the E220CDi reaches up to 216km/h ~ 134mp/h ... fast enough for a taxi I think...

When I lived in Germany there were still a couple of old W124 taxis. I rode in one once and I could not believe how stripped down they were. The W124s were also E200 diesels, stick shifts. The cars moved, but that little engine really worked hard. I always found it hard to believe that a 4-cylinder diesel (without a turbo, I'm sure) would last 200,000 miles plus before it needed to be rebuilt.

My 300E looked like a Maybach compared to the W124 taxi models. Even the W210s were very spartan. I will be back in Germany this summer, so I am sure I will be checking out all the MBs again. I will be renting one.

I have a friend who has a (W211) 2002 E220 CDI automatic. They like it, but they say that the little engine is very loud and strains a lot.

This "little" engine has a lot of torque and the car is pretty fast. The E280CDI ist faster and much more quiet, but the 4cyl. CDI's just need 5.8 liters for 100km.

Indeed it is. No yellow or checker paint job, no advertising signboard on the roof, no "Blitzgeschwindigkeit Taxi Gmbh" sign on the doors, not even a "Driver Carries Only 5 Euros in Change" notice. No "E220 CDI" emblem, either - would that have been removed, or not installed on a German model in the first place? And are those alloy wheels, or just wheel covers over plain steel wheels?

It looks like the Taxi sign is connected to the rear carrier mount. The driver can play Taxi and then take the sign off when he wants to use it as a personal car.

I also noticed that. It looks as if the sign does not go all the way across. There might be another one on the front right mount. I also imagine that the taxi model must have an electric connection in the carrier mount if they want to light the sign.

As per using the car afterwards for personal use, I think that people will still be stopping him since that beige color is strictly for taxies.

I also must say that I think that the W211 looks very nice as a taxi. The W124 looked ok, but the W210 never looked too good as a Taxi. One of the problems that the W124 and E210 has was that they had hideous hubcaps. This model has much nicer hubcaps (if that is possible to say).

Heavens no! If not for taxis, who would buy Detroit's cars? Oh yeah, Hertz

In Germany, almost every taxi is delivered in this colour. Just like your yellow cabs. I think that's advertising enough. You dont see any private owned cars with this colour (elfenbein)

I like this one

Many of the Taxi's in Germay use the 200CDI engine. E200CDI and E220CDI are very economical with a fuel consumption of only slightly more than 6 litres/100km (47.09mpg/UK; 39.21mpg/US).
