But in his earlier post (a page back)...

he said it was chiming whether he fastens a seatbelt or not,

Zevik - "well now i can say for sure it has a defective sensor. As of today it beeps all the time regardless if u put a seat belt or not."

So, it turns off the light AND the chime. It just doesn't feel right. Kind of like that time nobody could figure out the check engine light on my Nissan and I just had the mechanic remove the check engine bulb so I could sell it. But then I bought a Maserati and karma got its revenge over the next 4 yrs.

I guess I didnt see the entire thread. In that case, I absolutely would have them replace the sensor, THEN if he wanted to turn it off to do so.
Im with you on the bad karma thing though, although this isnt a check engine light lol

no actually, it was beeping cause i had something on the passenger seat and apparently it sets of the sensor. If you ask me i think it shouldn't work like that, just cause i have a couple of books there doesn't mean it has to assume someone is sitting but that's another story.

As for the setting, the instructions do turn both the light and the chime off if changed to the OFF setting. However MB doesn't wanna do it since they are afraid of liability.

Zev, mine was super-sensitive the first few days I got the car...

Then it eventually stayed on all the time. That's when I took it in for repair. Now, I can put my briefcase on the seat and it won't chime. The first day I got the car, it was like yours. It chimed with just my notepad on the seat. I thought it was weird, but then remembered something about a US regulation proposed a few years back that would require cars to control airbags according to weight of the person in the passenger seat. So, I figured maybe it had something to do with that. Of course I later found this wasn't the case. I don't think that regulation ever passed.
