V1 install

Piece of Cake!
Great thread by XrayMD. My V1 install in our newly acquired 2007 E350 was a snap. The only area where the phone cable did not fully conceal was at the bottom of the driver's A pillar, where the dash top was just too tight a fit against the pillar, so there is about a 2" long segment of cable that lays against the bottom of the pillar before it goes back down behind the doorseal and into the fuse block area.
Thanks again XrayMD!

Just wanted to say thank you for the write up.
BUT: It really doesn't make any difference whether to have it up there or down at the windshield/dash line. It is radar and radar is RF just like a radio. You won't gain a foot of faster reaction time with your V1. I have one too and don't wanna miss mine since I got em in 2002 or so.
About laser, if your V1 goes off with laser and it is not bogus you're done. The laser beam is not just narrow but dead on.
The best thing with V1 and others is to have at least one car in front of you b/c then you have a natural shield. If it goes off from the front the cop is unable to clock your speed but most likely it is aimed at the car in front of you. You can slow down while the other one gets pulled over if one gets pulled over.
My best result ever was driving 100 mph, V1 went off and I had 14 seconds until I approached the CHP car with 70 mph. One can easily calculate how far I was away from the cop as it started beeping.

So I tried to do this tonight on my 2007 E63, and could not find any red and white striped wires. Does anyone know which of the wires took the place of the red and white wire?

Got any pics? Here's the one I did recently.

Was nervous about notching out the cluster bezel, but it's cheap enough to replace.

If anyone with an E63 can help me out, I am still trying to figure out which color wire to tap into underneath the ash tray. They are different colors than the E55 wiring.

V1 in rearview
Has anyone tried to interface the display into our MFD? I saw this on youtube, but don't know if anyone have tried it?

Looks good but not too fast a job...
Just finished up, looks killer. I removed the door seal and visor and was easily able to slip the cable around the top of the A pillar and run it down the outside of the pillar and under the plastic tray (held by the 3 T20).
That was the easy part and part 2... Part 1, trying to route the wire from under the drivers side and into the console was a royal pain in the *(&(#$. I ended up cutting down a fiberglass rod for running communication lines and used it to find a path from under the dash to the cigarette lighter area. I also used a metal spatula about 1" wide from the kitchen to help move/pry bezels/headliner, etc while placing cable or wires. When I tried the screw on the left of the tray, no - ground, the substructure is plastic so then had to route a second wire back to the brown ground wire @ the lighter. On my E63 the hot wire is red/white (at least I think so, I'm a little brain dead at this point).
I consider myself pretty handy having done most jobs small and large on a vehicle at one time or another over the years... that said this was a little tricky and nerve wracking removing the beautiful trim- shifter bezel and ash tray. I'd say it took me much longer than 45 mins that someone said. I'd give yourself at least a couple of hours if you haven't worked on late model Mercs... or are out of practice.
Thanks for detailed instructions!

Vik888-
$100 would be a bargain. The time to locate someone in Nor Cal, drive, drop off and deal with it all -probably never get done.... plus the fun of staying up a late alone in my garage w/o wife and kids and sweating the details - priceless!
Actually kind of fun as it's been awhile since I've tinkered. The only concern is when you are halfway into it and wondering what did I get myself into? All good when it was complete.
