Question about mirror signal LEDs (or bulbs?)
Peeps,
I am trying to change all my signal bulbs to white (hate especially the egg yolk effect in the front lights) and the ones for the mirror signals is a toughy. These seem to be LEDs and I cannot figure out how to get to them. Questions:
- where (and what type exactly) can I buy similar white LEDs
- how can I disassemble the mirrors in order to be able to replace them

Yeah, I don't like the white blinkers. I don't think they're illegal, though. At least not on a Federal level. This is all I could find on the DOT site:
"(d)(2) Turn signal units shall be marked with the manufacturer's or supplier's name or trade name and shall be marked "SAE-AI" or "SAE-I"."
It said nothing of color.

California states that front turn indicators must be WHITE or YELLOW in color. Rear indicators must be RED or YELLOW in color. Side indicators should be yellow, so I think white ones might be a problem (because side ones are considered both front and rear when they are visible from both front and rear; thus, the red ones on some cars that are only visible from the rear).

Wow, the guy asks a question and gets not one response that answers it. Intrinsico, I have white blinkers in my side mirrors, but I have a 208 not a 211.
Scorchie is correct about the DOT laws regarding blinkers, but I've had mine on my car for about 5 years (front blinkers white, mirror blinkers white, and rear blinkers red) with no problem. The only time you'll run into a problem is when you have white blinkers in the rear as they're obnoxiously bright and attract a lot of cop attention. In the front blinker this brightness is offset by the headlight and in the mirrors it's not bright enough to be a problem.
Although I've done this on my car, I have a 208 not a 211 and each mirror uses 6 incandescent mini bulbs. I'm pretty sure the 211's use LEDs and not bulbs so more than likely you would have to get some white LED's and solder them in place of the original amber ones. Your best bet would be to buy one of the light strips to open it up and see how it's set up so you don't mess up anything on your car before you know what you're doing.
As for taking the mirror apart you can access the fasteners that hold the mirror onto the car from the inside (under the tweeter) and you have to take the mirror glass off so you can easily access the screws that hold the mirror together.

The 211 mirror screws are outside the car; the 208 mirror fasteners are inside the car. Although I am not sure why you need to take the mirrors off the car on either 208 or 211 just to get to the blinkers? On the 211 you can take the cover off (that's always the first step), and remove the blinker. On the 208 you need to take the glass off, then can remove the blinkers without taking it off the car (it's a bit tricky but can be done). I guess the difficulty in getting the 208 blinkers out is made up for by how easily they come apart.
