Pleasant Surprise in the Mail
Received a very nice leather wallet today from our friends at Mercedes USA. It was the welcome kit containing a warranty card and other service information pieces. The front of the warranty card is personalized and shows a picture of the model purchased in the actual color selected!
The wallet is of high quality with the Mercedes logo nearly invisable and on the inside, so one could actually consider using it in public.
Many compliants about dicontenting, but this is a quality item. But then maybe I am too easy to please. Also, the car thus far has no defects in six weeks and 1600 miles (knocking wood).
Thought this might be of interest, as I have not noticed it mentioned by others.

It is always nice to read these type of posts. We all tend to quite rightly complain when things are not right, but sadly we might not be as quick to give praise where it is also due.
Giving a wallet is a nice touch and hopefully the service you receive from the dealer will also warrant a further message.
Have a nice day,
John

I received the wallet some time back. Others have received a blanket. The best gift I received was from my local Service Department. It's a clock in the form of the Mercedes wood steering wheel. It's very heavy with real wood.
The letter said it was a gift from my Service Advisor.

Yea... I received the "wallet" also... Nice touch for sure, but will be soon be forgotten when the next thing that comes in the mail is your car payment.

I received the wallet a few months back, I also found it to be a nice touch. Just a few weeks ago, I also received the embroidered blanket too!
I think that it is a very nice thing to do since I would probably still buy another Mercedes after this one is done its duty. I guess that after 4 Mbs that I have purchased, and a bunch that my family has, it is nice to have a token.
I must say though, my car will be going into the dealer for the first time in months (for a cracked windshield) for no fault of MB. I don't want to jinx myself, but the car has been totally trouble free since the driver's power door lock actuator and the hands-free cell phone was finally upgraded.
I think that the car is finally totally stabilized,
Steve

I received the same wallet last month, too. I didn't even realize the color of the car matches mine. I thought it was just a coincidence.
But where would you use this wallet? It certainly doesn't fit in my pocket.
Nice gesture nevertheless.

Got the blankie but no wallet. What color is the wallet? If the wallet is too big to fit in a pants pocket, it may be M-B's go at a unisex wallet. The last thing they want is to have their nice customer-relations gesture ruined by the appearance of sexism that would come from sending out what is obviously a man's wallet.

More description
DWP: The wallet is black leather. It is too long for any pocket, even most purses - even a man's inside suit. If I were to guess, it seems designed to be placed in your glove compartment. A handy thing for all vital vehicle information. The unisex concept is also valid.
Wallet now lives in my glove compartment.
All leather in San Francisco (no pun intended and only South of Market for those familiar with The City)

No Second Class Citizens
:p I did not intend to create any jealousy by disclosing my gift. Seems a bit funny and human nature to express concern (real or not) when you have spent between $55M and $65M for a car.
My theory on the uneven benefit is that it is a may be a recent program to match the new CEO's theme. The differences might also be impacted by the dealership and the manner it wishes to buget its goodwill money.
In any event, I love the car and look forward to receiving my blanket in 10 months time.
Great weather today in San Francisco

I guess this is another example of jumping through hoops. If you are a good boy and play the Mercedes game then they'll give you a toy. No wallet here. Nor do I expect one. They know they can KMA.

Hmm..... for me, I got the leather wallet soon after I purchased the car in December 2003. Then I got the blanket about one year later. I have no idea how they decide who gets what and when.
I did however e-mail them asking for a blanket before I got one and they replied that the promotion was over. But then about a few months later the blanket arrived in the mail. It could all be coincidence too though.
It all just seems random.

I am sure no one will accept a second rate service, but we are all individuals and have different ways of resolving any problems.

Forget the friggin’ trinkets; since their method seems to be random they should award the “Key to Luxury” package:
http://www.ritzcarlton.com/corporate...es/default.asp BTW, I got the blanket which is worth its weight in gold here in AZ. Not complaining though, MBUSA has done right by me - always!
