Handle swipe to open

I just discovered that (In addition to other methods) a finger/thumb swipe to the left or right on the lower (painted) portion of the door handle will make the handle present itself--a really slick method.

Am I the only R232 SL owner that did not know this?

I wouldn't say you are the only R232 owner that did not know this but this was mentioned almost all times in car reviews of W223, R232, EQS and EQE both sedan and SUV, C236. Your delivery specialist should had went through this, if you are not the type that watch youtube reviews. So they didn't do their jobs properly.

Unless... I am understanding you wrong.

I did watch many R232 reviews but must have missed it.
The point of my self-deprecating post was to alert others who might have also missed it.

And my salesman did not tell me. He also told me that the only way to open and close the convertible top was the annoying touch screen hold method..I showed him the double physical button press method I gleaned from a Doug Demuro review.

Sounds good and yes your salesman or if you were assigned a delivery specialist, their duty is to tell you things like this, so they didn't do their job properly if you didn't know.

Thing is you don't actually have to swipe it, but most people don't realize that the MB door handles have two sensor areas. You can touch the outside of the handle, or the indented square. I never use the square. I always touch the larger handle sensor area to lock for example. BTW, this is all documented in the owner's manual.

I kind of knew about the feature of extending the retractable door handles with a finger touch. But I never use it. I don’t find it useful. Even if you extend the handle, the door is still locked, so I just use the remote to extend and unlock.

Ya I don't use the square either, if I recalled correctly, that square is for the summer convenience opening feature? Could you kindly confirm?

I locked myself out of the car a few times. I left the car parked with the engine running for 2 minutes, when I came back the handles didn’t pop out at all. I had the key in my hand and nothing. I tried unlocking from the key, only the trunk worked. After a few minutes I tried the passenger s door and that one worked. Very tricky sometimes…
What do you do if it doesn’t open?

Yes, for the convenience open/close feature you have to touch the square only.

Don't leave the car running. My understanding based on a similar experience another forum member had and a subsequent conversation they had with Mercedes customer service, they've added a safety feature that if the car thinks somebody is inside, either by the engine running or detecting a key fob inside of the car, it retracts the handles and doesn't release them to protect the occupants and/or the car from being jacked. Not sure what exact procedure you have to follow to get back in, other than somebody from the inside releasing the door handles via the unlock button.

I see, basically aiming the key at the box/square to use that feature right?

No, place your finger on the square and keep holding it there until the windows/sunroof/panoroof opened/closed. I mostly use it to close everything after parking if I had the panoroof open. Place the finger on the square until everything is closed. To open it I usually do it from the key fob as I'm walking up to the car. Point the key fob towards the car, press and hold the unlock button. Sometimes takes a couple of attempts to succeed. You have to be somewhat close to the car. It doesn't allow it from far away.

I read that in the dealer ordering guide back then, it never works for me but maybe because I am in Canada.

it even showed that you can slightly pull the handle to do the summer convenience feature without the key pointing at it.
